Bow friendly hog guides in/near Missouri?
« on: December 06, 2012, 06:35:00 AM »
Has anyone hunted hogs with an outfitter in MO?
I am looking for a bow friendly guide within 4-5 hours of St Louis. It could be in surrounding states, too.
Thanks.

I'm not sure that Missouri is such a great place to try and plan a hunt for hogs.

There was a few hogs around Lake Wappello south of St. Louis 3 hours or so. That might be a shot, but like Charlie said Mo. isn't a hot spot for them.
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

Some of the Mizzou guys will chime in but if I'm not mistaken, The DNR there stopped all hog hunting to deter hunters from bringing them into the state.

Yeah, MO. not exactly overrun with hogs, although there are a few guides in SE MO. on-line.
Surrounding states are ok, western TN, north Ark,eastern OK too.4 hours or so of St Louis.
Thanks for the help.

Biggie, Kansas stopped hog hunting for the reason you mentioned, although a land owner or one he gives permission to has to get a permit from the state to hunt hogs on that property. The last I heard was Missouri would let you hunt them and did not require a hunting permit. Now that could have changed as it's been a couple of years since I hunted them there.

Missouri Dept. of Conservation says "shoot on site".•No permit is needed to kill feral hogs except during deer and turkey seasons then you need an unfilled tag and abide by that specific seasons methods and regulations. There are a few concentrations in South Central and Southwest Missouri. So far we are not infested like the southern states.

I have been wanting to try hogs in missouri as well and have been looking at a company called dakel. Price seems right, might give it a try this spring.

There aren't enough free ranging hogs in Missouri to support a guide service.

There are some hog "ranches", if that's your thing.
