Lots of times I tell people (mostly my wife) "I'm going to build a blind or set up a new hunting spot. Really what I'm going to do is build a fort. I just can't imagine asking anyone I hunt with "wanna build a fort?" But when were out there doing it that they have the ambition of a child. I know I do. I guess to admit out loud your true motive would be a little embarassing. Any how, this weekend I'm going to build a fort. I just wonder how many have this thought in the back of there mind. 52 going on 8.

I just built a fort on Monday.   :bigsmyl:  47 going on 8.

I have many forts.....and plan to build countless more.  The pieces of land that I hunt locally are going to be loaded with forts before too long.  My plan is to have too many good forts to choose from......so when nature throws me the change up in regards to wind,  deer travel,  change in food source.....I have a fort to hold down.  Much better than trying to hang 20 - 30 tree stands.  Someone could wreck my forts,  but they arent going to steel them.  They cost me a few minutes of my time....nothing more.

It is ok for us old guys to be building forts as long as you dont start having pass words to enter or a sign on them that read, HEMAN WOMAN HATERS CLUB,,,lol.

Well heck yea!.......doesn't everyone!!
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

I love this analogy!  I think it will be a lot easier to convince my kids that 'ol Dad needs some help building some more forts for next season.

I told my wife a long time ago I have to grow old... but growing up is optional.   :bigsmyl:

Walked by one of my forts a while back heading for home to deal with a biological emergency. And I spotted a ziplock bag with a partial roll of toilet paper inside of it. Really saved the day. It turned the fort into an outpost camp. Nah,still a fort.

Most likely our most common trait on here!

Yep, that exactly my mindset when building the...ahem "ground blind" it is probaly 99% of the experience!  I remember one such fort when I was around 14 or so (was I too old lol) it was in a yopon thicket and I had carved out just enough space to crawl in and raise a pellet rifle laying on my back. I probaly killed 30 English sparrows that day and  I didn't turn into a cold blooded murderer later in life.
Everything I have and have become is due to the Lord and his great mercy.

Cute. Making a bowstring always reminds me of braiding friendship bracelets in grade school. Also love coming across a mystery in the woods and imagining a scenario to go along with it.

45 going on 8. I love building them. I have some that are over 20 years old now. They get "refurbished" every couple of years.
Having done so much, with so little, for so long, I can now do anything with nothing.

My wife says I'm 52 going on 4 ..... I find that I am a bit more mischievious at that age.
