« on: December 07, 2012, 07:59:00 PM »
Anyone help with the character/use/ qualities of these bows?
Which one should I buy?
Thanks!

If you are talking Thunderstick Archery, then the MOAB is the bow. Fast as anything and quiet!

Awesome bows made by a good man.  My personal preferance is for the Thunderstick III, but the MOAB certainly is popular for good reason.

Hi Legolas, this was a special edition bow from Dwyer longbows. It is an awesome bow, in every way! Off your topic sorry, just thought you might like it considering your handle.   :)

No offence to the MOAB shooters but I had the MOAB ordered to my specs and sold it the very next day on here after getting it from Jim and I've shot a few other other Moabs and they are nice but not his best,,

you HAVE to shoot the Thunderstick 3 before deciding ,, it has a much better grip that fits your hand better but its also much more stable maybe because of the reverse lamination but most of the people who go on about the Moab have not even shot Jims Thunderstick 3 which is the bow that pretty much put him on the map way before the Moab when he changed the name to Thunderstick archery from Traditional archery supply,, save a hundred bucks by buying a smoother drawing bow thats just as fast if not faster and much more stable.

when I discovered the Thunderstick 3 I was at denton hill and that year the T3 was the best shooting bow out of everything there taking me into the 3rd round of the eagle eye,, my group alone bought 5 of them on the spot after trying them..

What Tajue17 says!  The Thunderstick III was the first custom Longbow I ever purchased back in the late 90s.  Still have it and have hunted the last couple years with it again.  I love the way she shoots, smooth, quick, and quiet!  I thought the Moab was not nearly as smooth and a little more harsh on the shot.  You need to try both for sure!

I've only shot one Thunderstick, ever, and it's the one I bought used last year, ThunderstickII. Absolutely love it and my go to bow. It's the only shorter longbow I have ever shot that shot this good. It's 58# and on the scales hits 58 like clockwork but everyone who draws it tells me that no way is it 58#. It's that smooth.

Another vote for the MOAB... 60" seems to be the "Magic" length for that design... at least it is for me...  Love the way that bow shoots!

Legolas,

I've shot Mag's, MOAB's and III's. All have their plus points. But overall, I liked the III and the 62" MOAB the best. If you hunt on the ground and don't care about a longer bow, the 66" III was what I liked best.

I see you're in Ohio. Do you ever get to west Michigan for anything? Work or family?

I ask because Bob's Gun and Tackle is about 30 minutes south of Grand Rapids and they usually have 5-6 brand new Thundersticks in stock and a few used ones. You can shoot one and buy one there.

Otherwise, Jim Reynolds is typically at Comptons in the summer, which isn't that far from you. He usually has a solid 12-15 bows there.

Thunderstick III, T-Mag and lastly the Ramhorn if you can find one! MOAB was nice but did not "trip" my trigger and I tried a couple of them.
