I use a Selway on my longbows.  Simple and works perfectly.

Thunderhorn for me as well!
The leather piece on botton constricts on the limb as you apply pressure while stringing. This keeps the string in place. So its always in  the grooves and cant slip out.It also helps keep the string alligned for recurves so it strings up with less worry of the string not being in the grooves on the belly side of the limb.It works on any bow and makes me feel very securve when string radical recurves.

I also like the pressure pad personally as I can feel the string on the top limb string knock wise and  belly side and make sure everthing is in place. For recurves especially before I release the pressure of the stringer.

I use Selway and love them.  I've got both the recurve and longbow version, though as has been stated, you could use the recurve model for both.

I couldn't find that stringer, and I would like to see what it looks like. Can you direct me to where it is?

My favorite is the Webster.

amar911, just checked Ben's web site and it appears the stringer video is no longer there.  It is the best method I have found.  Reasonable price.  You just strap it on your leg--I use it on my left leg--there is a loop on the strap on the inside of your leg that you slip the bottom limb tip into, then use the step through method.  Since the bow tip is free to move around in the loop there is no danger of twisting a limb like with the old step through method, but you are holding the bow in such a way that the tips of a recurve are pointing away from you, you can't twist a limb, very safe for you and the bows as it avoids the possibility of twisting the limbs if you were to torque the grip as you pull up as you do using the conventional stringer.

I like the Selway for recurves. I perfer the Thunderhorn for longbows. Either one of them can string both style of bows though.

I've used alot of them over the years and the selway stringer is still the only one hanging on the way.  Can't beat them. dino

Black Widow and Webster both very good stringers. They work great on recurves and long bows.

I have a Selway, a Thunderhorn, and a Saunders recurve bow stringer.

They all work pretty well, but if I had to choose one, it would probably be the Saunders. It is small, so it fits in my possibles bag in a zip lock bag. The upper limb gripper is the best of the three. It is three sided, softer material, and absolutely won't slip.

Still, any of the three are safe alternatives to not using a stringer. You can find LOTS of old recurves with twisted limbs from the old step-through stringing method most of us old-timers grew up with. Heck, I didn't even know there was such a thing as a bow stringer when I started shooting back in the '60s!
