String selection
« on: December 08, 2012, 02:48:00 PM »
Yep..  Newbie question.  Have been shooting for a couple years now but newer bows.  Just picked up a 70's Bear Super Grizzily and a Gull Wing for a friend.  Understand that these older bows should not use the newer high performance strings?  So what will be my best option?  Sponsor to purchase from?  Do i order just based on AMO length?

THANKS!!

Ron,
Your best bet is to use b-50 dacron and many stringmakers are on here that can make one for you..S.B.D. "silent but deadly" is a fella here that makes some ..I'f you have the A.m..o length written on them then that should do it and give that imfo to whoever builds one for you..

My choice would be Dacron B-50. 3.5 to 4" shorter than the listed bow legnth. For bows in the 45-50# range, I use 14 strands. Oliver Stacey has good strings. I also buy alot from Len Emmen. He runs an ad in TBM.

B-50 for sure  but look into getting the stuff and twisting up one. I started doing it myself and love it just another plus of trad gear.
