Why did Easton scrap Autumn Orange?
« on: December 13, 2012, 02:25:00 PM »
Anybody know? I loved these arrows in my younger days. I remember my dad buying them for us at Anderson Archery when we were spuds. I just started shooting 2018's again, and am back in love. But alas, like many others,I miss that Autumn Orange of my youth. Imagine those re-available with the push-in "S" nocks. That would be so nice! Must be the high-speed bow/carbon market is so much more lucritive. Just wondering aloud. rat'

I'm betting if they were big sellers they would still be in production. That said I like them and I also like the naturals. I just make do with what I find second hand.

Just stopped at a local 2nd hand store and found 11 2016 autumn orange xx75's.  Had 4" feathers, and didn't look like they had been shot.  Asked the owner if he had a tape rule, measured them, and they were full length.  Asked about price and he wanted $1.00 each, I offered $9 for all and he accepted.

I'm with ya rat!  Whenever something cool is discontinued it seems like people start hoarding.  They have a cult following similar  to the original Storm Hot-N-Tots.  :saywhat:

I did see that the new VPA Vapor the Tradtusker posted has autumn orange anodizing as an option for the riser.  Goes to show how another company with a  different product is capitalizing on the following.

Would be cool to see FMJ in autumn orange.

I think the trend at the time moved towards camo. They always want to change things.

My all time favorite is the JDA Super Naturals.
If it's in your way, move it.

They were discontinued along with all the other types and sizes because of slow sales.

First to go were the 18 and 20 sizes like 1618, 1718, 1720, 1818, 1820, 1918, 1920 because they were so tough(stayed straighter longer, too) that archers used them until broken. Easton found out that if they offered larger diameters in thinner walls they would break easier thus creating more sales hence all the 12, 12, 14 wall thickness sizes. Then along came carbons in 3 sizes that worked for all bows and now aluminums are much harder to find in good hunting sizes.

I think that any one that shoots carbon knows the answer to this for the most part....SPEED.

Chromebuck, your right on the hoarding deal. I am all over those original Hot-n-Tots myself. They ONLY get tied on in river runs that I know are snag free. Keith,I had a real killer color combo of those that I snagged up a few years back fishing for Kings. Stripped down to my skivies, and dove down to free it up! I still have it.   :bigsmyl:

You would just think with the technology of today you could just call up a company like Easton and they could just whip you up a batch of what ever size, color, nock, and insert option just like that.  I bet there's a back room or a basement corner over at Easton full of autumn orange shafts

It's a business thing only, back them they were old news, re-introduce them and they would sell because they are new again.  Wood grained carbons just look cool, but are no better than all black, grey what have you.  Look at the hype with "traditional" axis arrow. Bring them back as traditional alums and there you go.

"We" talked about this a while ago. I never had a previous experience with the AO, but really liked the colour from the posts on that last thread, so advertised for some 2018's and I got 5 with inserts FREE from a guy(What a place this is!) and BOWMARKS rounded me up a dozen uncut.
The 5 have turned into Flu-Flu's and I'm waiting for Snag (Wilderness Custom Arrows) to agree to do the "tin can" arrows. He sure likes the woodies. I do too for that matter, but would like to get these shafts dressed up.
Someone would probably have to ask Easton to do up 20 or 30,000 to make it worth their while.
Anyone?

I used them all the time back in the day. I still have a few left but don't use them anymore. I would go back to using them if they were available again.
