Ever have one of those years ...
« on: December 14, 2012, 10:36:00 PM »
I think this is my second post of the year, which matches the number of times I got out to hunt.

One of those years where everything turned left when I turned right.

On the other hand, I have about 2 weeks left in the deer season.  Never say 'die'.

I agree with Magoo due to the economy I have been working 2 part time jobs, kinda on call! I have hunted a lot in December but the deer are all working the nite shift it seems LOl! In Oct I saw deer at all differant times of the day, weather was mild in Oct! Didn't hunt as much im the gun season but did see a quite a few does! i was excited when the gun season ended but now we have had a fairly mild December real up and down on temps and the movemnet of deer is nill during daylight hours, muzzleloader has started so maybe that will stir some movemnt or make them more nocturnal, couple weeks left can't give up now!

I got a total of 6 hours hunting in this year and I am greatful for that time...Like most of you family, jobs,up keep on the homestead and Church all are part of everyday life for most...Just hunt when you can and appreciate that time when you do...Make the most out of it and Thank God for allowing us to do so cause tomorrow isn't promised to no one...Enjoy each day as it unfolds and if you do by chance go out and hunt don't forget to thank our creator for allowing us to do so...

We have been busy in our store, which is a good thing, but between that, guiding, a prolonged illness and 2 deaths in the family, I didn't even buy a license. First time since I got out of the military in '93 that I haven't hunted anything. Only got 5 half-days out last year. At least in the late spring and summer, I have enough time after the store closes to go fly fishing.

I haven't even been out to hunt at all this year and haven'r built a bow since last winter. I'm saddened by the loss of two things that have been a part of my life for many years. I have started getting back in my bow shop but our season is over for the year.
It is not that I have lost the desire to hunt but I have lost the desire to go hunting...if that makes sense.

Between working and trying to find a place to hunt,I've been out twice still waiting to see a deer.

Things changed for me five years ago when the economy took a hit. Work sucks, but it puts more food on the table than bowhunting.

Two tough years here as well.  Neck fusion and cataract surgery last year; cataract srugery other eye, surgery for a detached retina in October, and just had knee surgery last Friday.  The warratny ran out when I hit 50!

Here's to next year!  Hope all of us can find the time and will to make it happen next year.

2012 has definitely been one of "those" years! I have been getting to hunt a lot but the results have been a lot different then scripted most of the times.

Good luck to you the rest of the seaeon!

I'm in the same boat. My Mom has lived with us for the past year and needs full time care. I felt guilty leaving her with my Wife to go out in the field. Unfortunately, Mom fell in November, broke her hip and was in the hospital for about 10 days and then was transferred to a nursing facility for rehab. Since then I have visited her most every day after work with not much time to do anything. With the few times I have been out I haven't seen one deer while on stand. A bad year for sure.

Don't feel like the lone ranger. This is my worst year in 20! I can't find the deer. We had a bad hot dry summer. No acorns anywhere. My old honeyholes have ho deer sign at all! The weather is still terrible it's 74degrees right now! Seems like I can't get off work. And when i can my fatherly and husband duties need done. Im about to have a fit!!!!!

2010 was that year for me. knee surgery in sept and back surgery in dec. I managed to go like 6 times but killed 3 deer. that was the only plus. I like to spend more time than that in the woods.

Me too. First was Hurricane Sandy, then a Nor'easter, then a small piece of private land didn't pan out. Last year was wiped out by a motorcycle accident.
