Fricken Fracken Briken Bracken Turkeys!!!
« on: December 17, 2012, 10:49:00 AM »
Spent all spring and never got one to come in close enough to shoot...

Then yesterday at the local range me and five other guys were shooting at the bales and this damn jake comes walking across the lane at about 15 yards! He wasnt even running!!!

Everyone was looking at each other and im sure we were all thinking the same thing....should i shoot it?

I said...YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!! And everyone burst out in laughter as we watched him walk off into the trees....

Unless your turkey numbers are low in your area I don't understand why taking a fall/winter turkey with a bow (of any type) isn't legal in all states. Do the law makers not know how difficult that is???

We happen to be able to here.

I feel you.
I have been chasing em for a while. Our season got extended to December 9th but still no luck.

Then yesterday I was driving my truck and one friggin' stand right in the middle of the road in front of me!

Around here, they know the suburban areas where they are safe.

I seem to see turkey all the time in unhuntable places.  One day driving home, I saw 3 groups of 20-25 turkey in each group off the side of the highway. Each group less than a mile from each other.

This was my first turkeyless year in a while. It wasn't their fault, though, on two occasions, the earth shifted suddenly just as I shot, and all I got was a couple of feathers.

I didn't purchase a turkey tag this year and it would seem that's a good thing. I usually see dozens of them at a time while deer hunting. This year, not one. I haven't heard of anyone in the area hunting them. I wonder if the drought hurt them?

We raise Narragansett turkeys.  One morning I looked out and our five turkeys were . . . wait a minute, we only have two turkeys!

Wilma was outside her pen "entertraining" three young gentlemen while Fred was having a fit inside the fence.

Hussey.

Thanks!  1956 Ford 640.

I liked it a lot better before it ate the tip of my ring finger on my right hand last month.  Guess I can't blame the tractor because I'm a dope.  By the time I learn to shoot left handed it will have healed up and the nail grown back (I hope).

The one season that I did NOT have a fall turkey tag, I got to know two seperate flocks by name.  they would walk by me and say things like "How ya' doin', Nice day, See any coyotes, Mind if we sit a spell and take a load off?" Turkeys are not smart critters, but they can see when you do not have a turkey tag in your pocket.
