Do any of you wear silk as your base layer, and where can I buy some (recommendations)? Peace!

I wear them almost religiously. I get mine from Cabelas.

My wife just gave me a pair for Christmas. I'm hoping to use them this weekend. It's going to be in the 20's.

I love mine, they are warm without the bulk. when its really cold I put them under a pair of wool,ya stay toasty and don't even know they are there.

I saw this years ago on my only Colorado elk/ muley hunt. My soon to be paw in law wore them under jeans. I just knew he was freezing. I was wrong. He wore them for years like that.

You could try with the wife's stockings and if they feel nice then buy your own silk pair.

Silk works well for me and is very comfortable with the least amount of bulk of all my base layers, but when it's really cold I switch to heavy poly and when very cold I go with quality merino wool, Icebreaker or Ibex.

Had a pair from Cabelas for years now and love them. Bought them to wear under my dress clothes in Jan-March since I am in and out of the car all day walking across large parking lots. On a 20 degree windy day they make a HUGE difference by the end of the day.
I wear them for hunting if it is less than 15-20 and love how thin they are under my Ulffrotte' wool long johns. Don't even know you have them on and gives you another layer that is not too bulky. JMHO

Silk feels good next to the skin and wicks away moisture. Doesn't retain odors like the polys. I get mine at Wintersilks. They have a web site.

I get Terramar silk from Sierra Trading Post. If you watch for sales the prices are very good. Even at regular prices it's less than REI, LL Bean or Cabelas.

I wear them a lot. Also, try Sportsman's Guide. They sometimes have them fairly cheap. I like silk under wool both for warmth and comfort.

Check out Sierra Trading Post (online). They sell overstock items that they buy from companies like Mountain Hardwear, Marmot, etc. . . I see silk long underwear listed for 40 - 50% off retail price. I have been buying outdoor gear from them for years.

X2 on the Terramar Silks. I bought my mine from Sierra Trading Post 10+ yrs ago and still in great shape.
Do not buy the Silk Skins from Sierra Trading Post, I never got more then 1 year of wear from those.

I am sooo confused on the different types! Cabelas only has MTP TECH silk used in the military both tops and bottoms and only straight silk in a 2x size but bottoms only (white)
Terramar has light weight and the critics say are paper thin and used on cold days under regular clothes around the office.(but keep them warm)

Winter silks sells a silk/spandex envelope closure balaclava that is excellent. Makes a huge difference in keeping your neck and face warm and is thin enough that you can wear your preferred hat over it.
