Dynaflight 10, amazing, I'm sold
« on: December 28, 2012, 07:12:00 PM »
I used to be one of the guys that said all you need is B-50, or B-55, Dacron material, you know?  Anyhow, I just decided to give this "new" Dynaflight 10 a try and the long story short is, it's what I'm going to use from now on.  I've made lots of strings, I've made lots of bows, and I've only made one string with the D-10, it was for my 48# longbow. I made a 10 strand string, and found that compared to my 9 strand B-55 string, with the same brace ht. and same two arrows, my group is half the size and penetration into the same target was about 3" more with the D-10. Also the brace ht. stayed where I started. If it stretched it wasn't worth measuring. I've always said to stick with the tried and true, and you can't make a better mouse trap, but this D-10 is truely amazing.  But be sure and only use it on bows that have reinforced tips that can stand up to it.

I just bought a spool myself and made a string for my friends recurve and my longbow. Both bows became quieter than they already were. Like you said there is little stretch and a pick-up in horsepower.

I have gone to high performance strings for my selfbows. Usually without overlays. No problem. Faster arrows, quieter, and less wrist slap at a low brace height.

D-10 is all I use on my bows now.  It's pretty much the same material as D-97, but with zero creep.  I believe BCY markets it as a crossbow string material now. I've been curious about the new 8190 material also.

8190 and 452X are my favorites. 8190 for Flemish on my stickbows and 452X for my endless loops on my ILF rigs.

Dynaflight '10 is off the market, but "Force 10" x-bow material is basically the same thing.

It's not marketed as bowstring material anymore because it was only slightly different than Dynaflight '97--SK75 Dyneema vs. SK78 Dyneema.  8190 Universal is SK90 Dyneema.

Ultra Cam is similar to 452X or Trophy.  Materials with a higher percentage of Vectran have been tested and shown to have slightly less speed vs. 100% Dyneema materials.

I've been a fan of Dynaflight '97 since it was introduced, and now like 8125G and 8190.  Not for the speed difference--I like the durability and lack of stretch/creep.

I've never seen a big difference in any of the HMPE materials.

I'm not a bowyer, so take this for what it's worth.  I shoot HMPE materials on 3 different selfbows, because of the reduced hand shock.  I can hardly shoot them with dacron.  I couldn't say if it's reduced the life of them or not.  They do have reinforced tips.

on a self bow- would endless still work, or would a flemish be better , having a little bit more stretch in them?

Chad, where does Astro Flight fit into your materials discussion?

I use 8-10 strand endless loop strings made with Astro Flight on all of my selfbows with great results.  My tips have overlays and I pad the loops with 4-6 strands of B-50.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

I just bought a bunch of D-10 so at least for now it's on the market.

  http://www.3riversarchery.com/BCY+Dynaflight+10+String+Material+1%2F8%23_i8620X_baseitem.html

I bought it from 3 rivers.  Not trying to argue, but if available it's on the market.   But is possible that BCY stopped making it, I really don't know why they did that though.  I hope they just changed the name to "force 10".

That is what their website says...they "rebranded it" to Force 10...to avoid confusion with all the D type materials...

I dunno...sounds weird to me...but hey...

Lots floating around...grab it while it's the same!
