Climbing Treestand Seat

I am thinking about using some type of seat that can be attached to the tree to sit on rather and using the top portion of the climbing stand. Id just swing the top part of the climber out of the way after using it to climb the tree. Anybody out there who has tried this? If so, what are you using and how well does it work?

look up tree seats on the net, i have one I use for ground hunting and it straps to the tree. If you want cheep and have the room on the climber a bucket would work.

I looked up the tree seats and I am not sure whether or not anyone had ever tried them above the ground.  One of the manufacturers seemed to suggest only ground level use of their tree seat. I need something safe, sturdy, and convenient.  I don't mind paying for something that works.

If you are not happy or comfortable in the climbing stand you are using now, I would either look for a different climber or go to a hang on and climbing sticks.

I don't think heights are a good place to be experimenting  :)at least not for me as I am not thrilled with heights anyway.

Are you trying to get a "more open" feeling stand for ease of shooting?

You are right...I don't want to experiement 20 feet up a tree    That's why I am asking to see if anyone else has tried this.  I hunt public land and I like the mobility of a climbing stand but the climbing seat restricts my shooting.  I'd like to get the bar and seat out of the way but I don't want to stand for 4 hours.

I have changed out a lot of climber seats with other climber's seats. I use API seat for my Equalizer because it attaches with snap buckles instead of threading the straps through the buckles and much easier to adjust height.

I don't recommend this seat, but it was the first seat of any kind we used in tree stands many yrs ago.

The climber comes with a seat, why would you want to carry yet more weight.  Just use the seat that comes with the climber!

Maybe look at the new lone wolf flip up seat climber. I have a strap on tree seat I love on the ground but sticks out typo far and makes the platform too small.

I started with a TSS climber, they didn't come with a seat and it was a long day standing all the time. I used a folding seat like that ONE TIME. After the morning hunt was over and I nearly fell off a couple times I hurled that seat as far as I could throw it from the stand!LOL, I had forgotten all about that event 'til I saw your stool.

HighNTree, before I would sit on an unattached seat I would just get a new climber without the bar. Or maybe pick up a Lone Wolf seat to use with your base.

You need an open front climber with a flip up seat. Try the Lone Wolf Hand Climber or the Summit Open Shot. I have used the Hand Climber for years and it is very difficult to find a better stand.

I guess no one treestand is perfect.  I like the openess of the hang-on stand when it comes to shooting a bow.  There is nothing in the way my bow limb for practically all shots.  Some of the older climbersused to come with a fold up seat and a separate hand climber.  This may be the best that I can hope for.  I don't know if anyone makes a climber like this today?

Summit Open Shot.  Hand climber with fold up seat.  If I had to do it all over I would order the base from the Viper and the top from the Open Shot.  They will work together.  The Viper base is a bit larger than the Open Shot.  You'd have a bit more weight but a larger base.  

Just as it is the Open shot is great for me though.  I can shoot in almost any direction, it's light, and an overall good value.

I have a Summit climber and use the seat only for the climbing aid. Like you said, after I'm up I flip the seat around the tree. I carry along an API Bobcat seat and attach it to the tree. It works great but like someone mentioned earlier it is extra weight to carry along but worth it to me. The old Loggy Bayou climber had the fold up seat with the climbing aid separate you were talking about.

You can also get a net seat for the Summits.  Can't remember vendor's name and don't know if a sponsor, but very comfortable, quiet and will push back against tree.

Im gonna try a Summit Specialist this coming year. For long sits the arm rests really make it more comfortable.
