Ron LaClair's Shrew Hawk goes out with me a lot.  My wife has one from 2Hawks that has proven to be a good tool.  I have an old one that my Grandfather got me from Dixie Gun Works back many years ago.  I still take it out in the woods too.  I have a CS Trailhawk that is okay, but I seldom use it.

My favorite hawk sized tool is my GB small forrest axe.  Great tool but not as cool looking as a hawk!

I don't carry this while hunting because I never saw the need for pelvis splitting, etc. in the field but it goes camping everytime. It's more of a small hatchet than a hawk though but very handy.

I have 3 hawks.  A shrew hawk, the smallest lightest of the 3.  A Vector Hawk; a modified cold steel trail hawk head on a composite handle,I think my favorite.  And Fort Turner Iriqious poled hawk which hasn't gotten much use yet.  I have to say I have yet to take any of these hawk bowhunting with me.  Day hiking, scouting, to the cabin, canoeing, camping, backcountry grouse hunting yes but not bowhunting.  I'm usually within sight of farms and houses when I'm bowhunting. Each hawk has its pluses and minuses, but all are useful tools once handled a bit...

I like my Fiscars Hatchet. It stinks for throwing but chops well and stays sharp.
My folding saw seems to end up getting more use--boring, not as cool, but seems to be what I use more...should have one if you don't.

I have a SOG tactical hawk that I take along.

I use the PATHFINDER SCOUT TOMAHAWK $ 129 at the Pathfinder store online. It is made by 2Hawks and he has a online store as well it is very sharp you can take the handle out of it and use it to skin with.

Awesome Goshawkin. If I live long enough to start another serious Hobby in My life it would be Falconry.

But back on subject, I am modifying a couple of Cold Steele Trailhawks right now. One for myself and one for my son-in-law.

How does everyone carry their Hawks. I'm looking at a couple of options.

Sorry to get off topic fellas, but when I read the title of the thread that's what I thought of.  :D   That's a picture of one of my redtailed hawks.I hunted with him one season and then turned him loose. Sorry again, and back to the proper "hawk" discussion.  :wavey:

I bought a vintage Plumb BSA axe from Evil B-word....I am going to put it on a new straight helve for a total length of  17"....this is a PERFECT length for me.

Long enough to be useful, but short and light enough to carry in my belt.

Here is a link to what I am talking about:

Ron's Shrew hawk is a pretty nice piece for the money.  I don't carry it all the time, but I carry it a lot, and I carry it most times I am scouting.

When I skwerl hunt, it is always with me as part of the team. Nutters knock them out and the Shrew finishes the job.
