After a great deer season and taking a deer with the bow my daughter had picked out for me, it was time to get the bow that Mom had picked out and see what I can do before our season closes! Wisconsin has an extended Turkey season for my unit and today was the last day until it closes.
The snow has been falling here with already 15 or so inches on the ground. The turkeys have been feeding heavily and often. I was hunting in a wooded subdivision where a friend of mine has 10 acres and his Dad has the ajoining 150 acres. The Turkeys have been very active and feeding pretty much all day, so now was my time to to try and get one! There was a flock of 30-40+ birds, with 2/3rds of them being hens and a 1/3rd of them being jakes. Never having gotten a Turkey with my bow before, this was an eye opener. I never realized how fidigity they were. Finally a young Jake gave me an opptunity, I burned a hole in the wing and the arrow was on its way. It went a total of 30-35 yards.
I took it with a Schafer Silvertip 58@28, on the bow it has Mom's name on it, along with an inscription that reads "hands that help guide me with a heart that knows no boundries".
After the shot...
