Riser crack
« on: January 01, 2013, 10:04:00 AM »
Found this riser crack on the back side of the shelf on a Bob Lee signature, the worst part is right at the curve of the grip, above the stippling, it's about half a centimeter long with a "splinter" taken out, the rest looks like its the finish, not open but I can feel it with my fingernail

Don't shoot it. Risers coming apart in your hand are not  fun. I learn that the hard way.

Can't get the pictures to come up,but I had a crack in a riser and used JB Weld. It was on the back of the riser where your hand wraps around and it was like a thumbnail crack. I took a dremmel and ground down and all the way to the ends and then filled it up. That's been over a year ago and it's still going strong.

My Lee riser did the same thing. I flowed some super glue into the crack and clamped it.I have shot thousands of arrows since then with no further problems.I did the repair 5 years ago.

Send it back to Bob Lee and have it fixed right, most bowyers wil repair there products at a very fair price. Have it done right and you will have piece of mind, or at least that is my opinion.

Great advice Gen273 . Might save you developing a flinch waiting for the riser to let go. Thanks, Roy
Maybe it is time to shoot what I have on the rack

I bet the maker would want it back to do the repair for sure.

Yeah mine was a tiny thumbnail crack, and was a pretty easy repair. That looks like a pretty big crack!

Definitely send it to bob lee. If they deem it unsafe and unrepairable, they will work with you in getting you a replacement. Their good people.

Good advice to send to
bob Lee. I could never trust that riser. that is a bad crack. I have fixed a lot of risers over the years. That one is toast IMHO.
God bless, Steve

I agree that the riser is probably unrepairable and in any event should be returned to Bob Lee.
