Glueing brass inserts

What do you recommend for glueing brass inserts to carbon?  will I be able to remove them if I use super glue?  My hot melt glue is not holding.

If you go to Big Jims online he has a hot melt that works great...if you are dead set against the hot melt then you can try insert iron..takes a day to fully set but it it also heat reversable if you are careful...if you aren't concerned about the insert being removeable then you can use JB Weld 2 part epoxy..the quick set version is OK but the overnight setting stuff is excellent..not at all reversable..I've used all three and I'd have to say that Big Jims is the best in my Gold Tips...I also rough up both the insert and inside of the shaft for better adhesion...hope this helps

Try this:  Quick Stick hot melt from Kustom King.  Holds well and doesn,t seem to break free with stump hits like J B Weld and Ferr-L-Tite.  Holds even in 120 degree huntin' weather.

Been using Insert Iron for the past few sets.  Couple of drops, twist 'em on, let 'em set about 12 hours and they're good to go.  Haven't lost an insert yet and when I need to remove one, a little heat to the fp lets it twist out without damaging the shaft.  Good stuff.

The hot melt that Big Jim sells (not ferrul-tite) always workes good for me.

have used gold tip "tip grip" without problems. Rough up the inside is good advice. for removel, get a long metal rod - sold at hardware store (simlar to all thread but with no threads) and remove the nock - "hammer" out the insert by hitting it with the metal rod

I've had decent luck with the Bohning Cool Blue. I have read where others weren't real impressed with it, but it's worked for me so far. Have heard a lot about the hot melt that Big Jim's sells and will probably eventually give it a try, the Cool Blue was just convenient because it's available locally. I think prepping both the shaft and insert prior to gluing is critical though. Rough up the inside of shaft with a copper bore brush, scuff up the insert with some sandpaper, clean both with 91% alcohol, and let both dry well before gluing.

After I bought my first block of big jims glue, never looked back, all I use, bought 4 more so I never have to worry about it.

I used "Bohning cool flex" hot melt stick with good results.  I burned 91% alcohol in a kerosene lamp.  Brass 75 gr inserts into Easton ST. Axis arrows.  Prep everything real good with alcohol first.  Good Luck

All I use is Gorilla Superglue.  Never had one come loose and I've hit some pretty hard stuff stumping including the face of a small bluff (missed the 3d target).  Heat will make it release too.  Its cheep and dries in an hour or so and can get it without having to order it.

All I use is Easton's hot melt anymore for any of my inserts. It creates an incredibly strong bond and is heat reversible.

Never lost an insert with slow cure epoxy, on anything!!! I rough up inside of carbon shaft and insert, clean with acetone and glue. I never had to remove one so don't worry about it.

I use foaming gorilla glue from walmart for the past few years. It's cheap, dries fast, holds up for years, and is heat reversible.

Another advocate for Big Jim's hot melt.  I'm always tweeking my FOC or just changing tips and inserts and only use this stuff - it's great.  Another plus is you can shoot it just as soon as it cools off - no waiting.  I even hot melt my target tips into the inserts so they don't unscrew - just a little heat from a torch and they come right out.

I use the same with my Easton Axis.  Able to change out if I want and never had one pull out unless I wanted it to.

Low heat glue stick from 3 Rivers. I never had one pull out and have ben using it for about 4 years. I don't clean the inside of the shaft. The brass inserts do not come out unless you heat up your point and screw it back in. I shoot Easton Axis.

I have used epoxy, but those boogers don't come out.

Lately I've used a few dabs of gorilla super glue...as long as I don't use too much, I can get them out.

i have used the cheap hot melt glue stick for all my point and insert gluing with no problems at all. the kind you put in a hot glue gun

I have found that some of the hot melt glue will not work on GT's. I have always shot Bemans and never had a problem with any hot melt glue. I bought some GT's and every insert pulled out! I will buy Big Jims hot melt, it should work on all the carbon shafts and definately will work on GT's (check out his video!)
