Traditional Shoots Longbow Class Restrictions
«
on:
January 06, 2013, 09:52:00 AM »
When shooting in the Longbow class at any of the 3 D shoots out there, does anyone out there know for sure if there are any length requirements on the Longbow and if so what shoots and what are the requirements? Also, what about shooting a IFL longbow as it is a three piece. Any restrictions at any of the shoots in the longbow class and if so what are the restrictions and at what shoots?
Thanks,
Tom

Concerning the large majority of 3d shoots, there is no standard, they vary. Larger shoots often have a "traditional" and "modern" longbow class which usually is determined by wood arrows or carbon/aluminum. I.B.O. shoots have specific rules for their traditional classes that you can find on-line. A very few shoots have a class for Hill Style or D bows with specific definitions concerning bows and wood arrows only. I have never seen length as a criteria for a class.

I did check on line and read the rules on IBO and there was a notation on tradtional class one and two piece, but nothing was stated about three piece.

Being a club officer I would recommend to any would be guest at one of our shoots is to call ahead or email if an address is on flyer. This can save everyone a lot of anguish. Some clubs have the info on their websites also. A club can decide from shoot to shoot what the rules will be. If the shoot is a sanction shoot, IBO or NFAA then their rules are law.

Better check before you go... they are all different...
IBO has changed theirs this year... centershot is now allowed I believe... used to be 1/8 out... can now be a two piece bow... used to be only 1 piece...
Texas Longbow Shoot has certain measurments that a riser must meet before it qualifies... It can only be so thick at certain points of measurements from the shelf... it's pretty complex...
Some are wood only... some any arrow...
If your in it for the competition, better find out before you go...

Out here if you shoot carbons, you are sometimes classed as recurve. NALS has one piece rule. Never saw a length requirement or rule
Second the advice, call ahead

At our club we have one class "traditional" no wheels is the only requirement. Shoot what you bring and have fun.
