I just got the call.  Daisy is missing the boys, and would like to know if they can join her again this coming weekend for a little revenge on some rabbits (I guess with some arm twising, I will chaperone the event WITH bow in hand).  I have a feeling more pics will be coming, hopefully one of the boys can pull off a great shot and claim their first rabbit kill.

You guys are killing me. We have a 15 year old who is on his last legs; probably will either go naturally or be put down in a day or two.

Man, this is really making me miss rabbit hunting.  For pure fun it beats deer hunting hands down.

I take Dolly to deer camp sometimes, she's great company.

A few years ago we had a problem with a bear nosing around camp and one evening just at dusk I let Dolly outside to do her business. She flew off the porch toward the deer pole bawling as loud as she could. I thought...what the heck..    :biglaugh:

I had been around a couple of beagles in my early hunting career that seemed to fit the 'bullheaded, don't listen' category.  It wasn't until I met Ron LaClair's beagle 'Maggie' that I realized how cool and loving they are.  I've got a picture somewhere of my toddler daughters from about 9 or ten years ago 'walking' Maggie at the Michigan Traditional Bowhunters Jamboree in Grayling Michigan.  They just adored her although I'm not sure who was walking who. Ron's dog Dolly is the same people oriented loving dog.  I think there's something to be said for having a 'family' beagle, because I don't think they act the same as a pen kept dog.

Ray, Maggie was truly a special dog. She was with us for 13 years Aug 91-June 04. She was a great hunter, rabbits or squirrels, and she loved kids. She'd go to work with me in the archery shop every day and would greet everyone that came in. She'd do all of her tricks for the folks, sit up, roll over, dead dog, and when she had to go outside she'd let herself back in by pushing the door open, then turn and shut the door with her front feet. Maggie changed a lot of peoples mind set about beagles.

I've had a beagle companion for over 50 years now and I couldn't imagine being without one. The problem with a good dog of any breed is they capture your heart but their lifespan is too short. ..   :(

Beagles are great dogs...but I wouldn't trade my Jack Russell's for anything. I dont even have to shoot..they get the kills for me.
Truth be told it was a toss up between JRT and beagles..I just couldn't handle the baying the beagles do. Although I find it funny when they're someone else's dogs   ;)

This was at my brother in law's place a few years ago. They get together just about every weekend through the winter season and run rabbits with beagles. Surprisingly they're pretty successful.

Back at it again tomorrow morning, The boys are anxious to spend another day with Daisy.  Weather is showing it to be perfect for rabbit "missing".
