F.O.C...........whats everyone else have ????
« on: January 07, 2013, 08:38:00 AM »
I calculated up my arrow with a 250gr broadhead on gold tips 55/75 cut to 28 1/2 inches and came up with 20% foc. Is this good, too high or not enough ? I'll be whitetail hunting with them.

I pick out my favorite broadhead, I put it on my favorite arrow material and I kill the game with it that I hunt.  This scientific system has been working for me for 47 seasons on everything from squirrles to bull elk.

I also use 55/75's with 250gr up front and am at about 22%FOC. They work real nicely for me. More is good but I think you are just fine at 20%FOC as long as your arrow is tuned well for your bow. I also entered your arrow in Stu's calculator and it says you are at nearly 24%FOC.

Some feel your results are too much. Others will say it's a good start or not enough.

Find what you like and use it.

Personally, I want my arrows to have no less than 30% if I can help it.

If your arrows fly straight, they are fine, and would be with half that FOC as well.

no idea...i select shaft material and pick the head based on what I am shooting or feel like or what the arrow and bow requires to fly correctly...sometimes 160gr heads and sometimes 190-200gr heads.  I know the front is heavier than the back with those heads but never figured out FOC....dont really care to be honest.  They fly straight and true....that is more important to me.

Don't know.  I taper the rear 12" of a 32" full length 11/32" fir shaft down to 5/16".  Glue a small nock on that end and then grind a 7/8" front taper and glue a 130 gr broadhead on the other.

I think it's FOC'n good enough.

No more than 15% generally about 12.
Chuck
P.S I know if i went to 30% i could shoot lots better and my arrows would fly like, well Arrows!

No idea, 300 gr head and 100 gr insert up front on AD trad shafts, works for me.

I have a 30" shaft with a 2.5" broadhead. I would say about 16.25" FOC.    :dunno:

Really though, I have no idea what my FOC is.  Like stated above, as long as your arrow flies good (and you can hit where you want), you shoot an adaquate bow, and you have a sharp head your all good.

For broadheads, carbons are at 22% woodies at 14% - for field points have tried from 8-20% & don't see any accuracy difference to 40m - only difference I've seen from EFOC so far is greater penetration & better accuracy with cheap shafts I made from hardwood dowels ...  will have to get good enough to shoot further consistently to see if EFOC makes a difference in accuracy there - M

I really don't know   :dunno:  I just use 125-160 grain heads, depending which wood arrows, and which bow I'm using at the time.
