Thank you Allen Boice,
« on: January 10, 2013, 10:43:00 AM »
I've been thinking about joining TradGang for a while now, but after receiving my new Liberty Edge from Allen Boice earlier this week I felt I had to sign up to applaud his work, and share what is no less than a work of art.  When my father in law, Ken Denton, introduced me to traditional hunting about four years ago he gave me a Liberty Chief.  Since then I've bought several of Allen's bows and become something of a patron of his work.  They're like a road bike; elegant and beautiful in the corner of your room, fast and effective when it's time to work.  Thank you, Mr. Boice!  You're a great artist.  Thank you, Ken, for the gift of hunting tradtional.

Beautiful bow...so what is the wood in the riser?

Allen is a great guy to deal with and he makes an outstanding bow.

Lon,

The riser is actually bocote.  I have bocote in one of my Cheifs, and my Contender, but this looks surprisingly different.  It has an almost fleshy complexion?  I had originally ordered the bow with a brown leather grip, but once Allen started to finish the bow he asked me if I wanted to leave it natural.  I'm glad I did.  This bow also has the Yew core and myrtle veneers.

I see who got the rest of the black myrtle. Greatlooking bow. I love Allens craftsmanship. Its just so clean. That bocate is kind of a unique piece too, really neat looking.

God bless, Steve

Thanks guys!   Hi Mark!  You're right chanumpa,  it's time to go hunting with this bow.  I have it all set now; quiver, hush puppies, etc...  We still have a little time to shoot does here, God willing I will connect with one.  Ken, my Dad, and I will be at the ranch the 18-20.  If we do any good I'll let you guys know.  Seeing quite a few axis and a ton of black buck out there now too...  God willing...

Steve:

Actually the myrtle in the limb is some that I've had around the shop for several years.  One of these days I'll pick up a board I have in my stock pile over at the coast that's really black and build a bow with it.
