Best Boot for Hunting/Hiking
« on: January 11, 2013, 05:27:00 PM »
So I have narrowed it down to the Asolo 520 GV or the Cabelas Perfect Hiker by Meindl.
What do you think if you have had either pair. These will be for hunting in VA/NC and Going out west for Elk.

I wear Asolo 520s for hiking, but they are not warm enough for most of my hunting.  Great hiking boots though!

My favs are the Asolo tps 535 and the Lowa Renegade gtx. Depending on conditions, the Lowa is a bit more quiet, and the Asolo a bit more rugged.

there's a ton of great hiking/hunting boots to choose, and what works best will depend on how well it fits yer feets, how durable and rugged, and what break-in period time frame.  on the recommendation of an oregon forest ranger, last year a bought a pair of hi-tec altitude ultras and they have been the absolute best hiking/hunting boots i've ever owned and used lots.

two different for applications, nothing beat my Vasques for hiking and being in the mountains, and for tree stand I use soft soled hermans or pac boots depending on temps. Stalking I use soft sole hermans or mukluks/socks.

I just purchased a pair of kenetrek Mountain Extremes and can't say enough good things about them.   Pricey, but I think we'll worth it.

I agree with Hummer, I have a pair of Vasques I just can't wear out.
They were comfortable right out of the box.

I've just gotten a pair of Zamberlan mountain hunters. So far I have been impressed to say the least. Very well  built and fit perfect.

I love the footbed of my Vasques but the upper on my Lowa renegades is incredible.  I guess it all depends on the individual foot.

I've worn out 3 pairs  of the Asolo 520's over the years.  I need a wide width or they would have been the 535's.  Gortex can be too hot in hi temps.  Over all great boots.  One complaint the material they use around the collar  wears through before rest of the upper and sole are worn out.  Most of the high end boots seem to be using the same thing.  As an after thought the little metal gortex label near the ankle always gets ripped off leaving a hole.  I wear them everyday on concrete for work, get about 3 years per pair.  They are my main daily foot wear.  Solid boot overall.

The best one is the one that fits you best.  Both boot manufacturers are well regarded.  Both brands are too wide for my feet, but a few buddies that wear the Perfekt Hiker by Meindl swear by them.

Crispis was the other boot I tried on with the kenetreks, but the Kenetreks just fit my feet better..

Crispis are also a very quality boot.

Meindl's.......the "Perfect Hikers" are a good choice.

I personally prefer the "Denali's" but that is just a matter of personal prefrence.
