Eberlestock Pack Ordered
« on: January 20, 2013, 03:56:00 PM »
Finally broke down and ordered the Eberlestock Blue Widow pack.  I kept seeing it in the $329 - $349 range, then I found one at Optics Planet for $213!  It was odd, because the only difference was the camo pattern.  I guess the Mossy Oak Brush is a slow mover.  Heck . . .Knock a hundred bucks off, and it moves to me!

Looks like they have one left in stock at that price. Camo pattern looks fine to me. Wish I had found a deal like that when I bought my pack.

Personally, I prefer the MO Brush pattern to all the others they offer. That is a great deal!

i too have a blue widow. do yourself a favour and sew on some adjustable straps from where the shoulder straps meet the bottom of the pack to the waist belt. it makes a huge difference in the stability of the pack. without them the pack wobbles like crazy. i'll see if i have pics.

I have an Eberlestock Mini-Me (in Dry Earth color) that is well made.  If you ever need a day pack, it can hold a lot more than you'd think and is incredibly versatile.

They make great packs.  They are just about perfect for long range hunts, and are very well made.

There are a few online video reviews of the Blue Widow which I am SURE will do better justice than the few pics I'll snap once the pack arrives.  But, in deference to the will of The People, I will post more once it arrives.

here's some pics of the few improvements i made to my blue widow. IMHO the adjustable stap from the pack body to the waist belt is essential. without it the pack wobbles like crazy. any good pack has straps that stabilise the pack like these do.
i also sewed some velcro onto the pack and the removable panel that covers the mesh. without it the panel would flop out away from the pack. the velcro makes the panel act as a part of the pack as if it were sewed in.
i also put a hook in the gun scabbard compartment for my water bladder to hang from. this way the weight of the bladder is hanging from the frame sheet not the material of the bag. it is centered too which carries better. you'll see what i mean about all these improvements when you get the pack.

Pack arrived today!  I had visions of doing one of those whole "unboxing" videos that seem to be popular in the gun & knife community, but ....well....hell....I just opened it up and smiled like a kid a Christmas.

I'll try to post a pic or two over the weekend, but I enourage those who are interested to go ahead and take a look at some of the blue widow pics and vids already online.

The pack is 7 pounds empty (about what my daypack weighs when filled!), but it REALLY looks like a load hauler.  Can't wait to take a deer (or something larger) out of the woods WITHOUT relying on the ATV!
