Anybody use handwarmer muffs?
« on: January 23, 2013, 07:58:00 PM »
Been thinking about buyin a muff style handwarmer like the kind that strap around your waist. I'm just getting tired of wearing thick bulky gloves and then either having to flip the fingers up or take them off to shoot. I was looking at one that cabela's sells for around 70$ but also saw that king of the mountain sells a wool one for about that same price. Just wondering if you guys like these or if one would be a waste of money. Also looking for suggestions on which to buy...

Are you kidding? I quit wearing gloves years ago. I like being able to adjust my binocs, or use my camera and then tuck my hands back in where it's nice and warm. The only way to fly!

I have a $20 hand-muff warmer that works fine. Without heater packs inside it works well, but with them it is excellent!

I use the ones with a zip compartment in front all the time. The little compartment is handy to put small items in and have right in my lap. Also I never have to use heavy duty gloves.

Yes I use one when it is really cold.  This Dec it was 9 degrees and my hands stayed nice and warm with out gloves. Just popped a couple of chemical hand warmers in there and good to go.

I have the sitka muff and really like the results. Hands stay nice and warm. Lots of muff styles out there to choose from.

I have one of Teresa Asbell's versions.  Put one of those chemical warmers in there and no more cold fingers.  I bought mine down at Denton Hill at a great price.  Highly recommended!

I have for a long time now when it is real cold out.  Handy to pack a couple things in even like thin gloves or a warmer hat for on stand.  I have an internal pocket I put a hand warmer in.  Don't know who made it, but love it.  I hate gloves bow hunting other than maybe a thin one on my bow hand.  Last couple years have been on the warm side, and I have not used it, but it is in my warm outer wear box always ready to go.

Even better than the muff is the Fanatic Jacket.  It has a built in kangaroo pocket that is insulated amd it is perfect.  I always hunt with a pair of their Merino gloves as well, hot of cold.  Great concealment, warmth, and easy to feel the string.

You can make one out of an old pair of camo pants. Cut off a leg and stuff a lining in it. Run your belt through it and you have a muff. You can go as far as you want with the sewing to customize it. They work great and I have never felt the need to buy one.

I have a twenty buck model and used it at 12degrees this past weekend.  I would not leave without it and we afe rabbit hunting.  Easy to get hands on the string for the rapid opportunities

I've been using a muff for more than 30 years.  Made my own at first, but now have a KOM model.  Was a bit wide though (about 18 inches) so I shortened it to about 12 inches.  There are a lot of good looking wool muffs being offered on the big auction site the past several weeks.

I use one and with a hand warmer in it you can stick it out in even the coldest temps. I would make sure you get one that is wind proof.

The one I have is so old it's Treebark camo. They're great. Put a hand warmer or two in them, your hands stay warm !!
