120# @ 36" selfbow 93 inches tip to tip
« on: January 27, 2013, 02:01:00 PM »
I think I had an Al Roker moment at 20"
The 1" thick arrow was a treat in itself.  Bow and arrow supplied by Ace.  One huge "Hex Head" on the business end.

Here is Sticksnstones (Thom) getting it to 31 1/2"  his normal full draw... (funny part is I acted like the camera wasn't ready for about 5 seconds after the pic.  We all stood behind him chuckling)

Ken Scollick near full draw...

Here is my oldest son Nick.  He has a recent problem with dropping his bow arm.

Is that the bow Gary Davis built at the Tenn Classic last year?

Well if you can't shoot it, you could just use it as a club.    :biglaugh:

The bow was signed by Gary Davis, I'm not sure when/where it was made. Many of us thought it was some sort of non-working marketing thing until we saw it strung. String was 20 strands of dacron, I talked to Matt Wirwicki about it a bit later in the day.

Yes drawing that bow does make you want to try it out on elephants and engine blocks... A lot.

I just got home Matt, and noticed your post.  No, I thought they were a pic or two with us drawing it, but I guess not.  Head was at least 1/2 pound and probably a 4 foot arrow.

Just you Thom. I looked at it and thought "No, uh uh. Not today!" I tried drawing a Shrew last year that was way over my head. Couldn't draw a bow for three days after that.

Very funny, Mike. I bet drawing any other bow afterwards seemed rather simple.

Mike, I'm not kidding anyone.  There is NO WAY this boy was going to try getting that bow all the way back.  My hat is off to Thom and Ken for getting it done.  It was an honor just to say I tried.

The bow as well as the rest of the show was very cool. Always great seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Here at the kids shooting area they broke close to 600 balloons and only about 6 arrows. Thanks to all of the people that stopped by the Michigan longbow association to say hi and particularly to all those that helped putting smiles on the kids faces.

Pat B, That is the bow Gary made. Matt Wirwicki and Al helped finish it at our Marshall primitive shoot over Memorial weekend last spring. I had to help string it a few times.

Bob Mayo from Ace Broadheads has toted that giant arrow around for years and Gary always asked to see the bow that could shoot it. So he decided to make the bow he's own self I guess.

Nice job to Thom takeing it to anchor. You to Ken.
