Sometimes you get lucky talking to bowyers
« on: August 21, 2007, 01:29:00 PM »
I was looking around at different bows & fired off a couple of e-mails to some bowyers.

Brandon Stahl replied that he had a prototype bow with 2 sets of limbs that he'd give me a good deal on. No kidding! This is what came in the mail. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but sure feels good in my hand.

(never posted pics before, hope this works)

Hmmm....that riser looks like mahogany????  Beautiful bow, let the line start here if you just don't get along with it.

Hey guys, thanks! Sorry about not getting back to this sooner, but it was time to start making ready for hunting season & I really hadn't planned on having a new bow right then!....LOL but I finally found time to get it rigged up & tuned properly.

Chortdraw - you were so right about having fun with it!

mqqse - yeah, from the pics is does look like a mahogany, I thought from the pics it might have been bubinga, but it's shedua, with bloodwood.

Colours don't always show true from cameras & comp. monitors, so I've taken a pic of it with some reddish background.

Now about the bow. I am really delighted with it! It's a keeper!

There is something about the geometry of the bow that makes it very forgiving, I feel the bow makes me a better shot that I am. The feel of the bow is extremely graceful, I love that. It feels like a short bush bow in hand. It comes up smoothly & quickly to draw & is spot on target. It tuned easily & most importantly, it's quiet.

Regarding the limbs; I really like the taper & minimum mass. Now I'm probably easily impressed when it comes to speed. I mean really, when was the last time you shot a custom bowyers bow & you felt the limbs under-preformed? Don't really think I can tell the difference between 184 fps & 195 fps, but quills shoot plenty quick from this bow.

Regarding the riser; it is pretty comfortable & I paticularly like the contour of the throat as it fits my hand nicely, & the fuller palm swell. Though for my style a bit fuller would be better! & higher...LOL. The overall dimensions are perfect! Not sure why Brandon would not offer this design, but if he doesn't, I've got a one of kind type bow!

What I most like about it, is that it is quick & quiet. By quick I don't mean arrow speed, but how quickly it is to draw & have it on target. Some other bows I have to put the bow "on target", not this puppy! It's right there, right now. Gotta love that!

I was in the process of ordering a bow when Brandon offerd this one. That bow should be here by the end of Nov. Went with a fancy smancy one! I'll post pics when it arrives.
