John Strunk/ a Master for shure
« on: August 21, 2007, 02:01:00 PM »
I bought an english style longbow from John in 1993. I has wildcherry bark backing and horn nocks and is beautiful. About a year ago, I strung it , for the first time in years. To my horror, the lower limb had hinged really bad. I was shure that this was the end of a great bow. I put it up and kinda forgot about it. About 3 weeks ago I emailed John and ask if he thought it could be fixed. He said, "send it out and I'll look at it". He called about a week later and say's, " I got it fixed and am sending it back". I ask how much I owed, and was very suprised at the, what I thought was a low price. He had to cut out the bad section of the limb and glue another piece of yew in its place. Then retiller that limb. You can hardly tell where it was repaired. Then refinished the whole bow, shipped it from Oregon to NC for only $100. what a bargin. Below are a couple of pictures of the bow. One of my son shooting it and one of a friend checking out the cherry bark. I'll try to post a closeup of the repair later. John is the man. Don

John is a friend, and I know exactly what you mean about the kind of person he is. He and his wife Pat are the salt of the earth, and it is my great honor to know them both.

Now as far as his bows and his skills as a bowyer, I can speak to that as well, having enough of his bows to supply a small army. Life is good.   :notworthy:

Not that John Strunk, his bow, or Don Batten either, for that matter, need it but I can sure add my accolades to John's abilities and this bow. It's a humdinger, a shooter, and his repair job is next to unbelievable. I'd be proud to just have enough of his Yew bows to supply one ol' Marine - never mind a small army, Ghost Dog -    :biglaugh:
