Thanks Guys. I miss that Centaur I sold to ermont. I sold it to buy a 2pc and Centaur was not building them at the time so I bought an ACS. I liked the ACS but could not get used to the grip. It was a little too big for me. With the sleeve design thet said there was not alot of room to down size it. I am still on the fence here.

Take care, randy

Well if the wait time works out about the same with the Centaur spot, then it comes down to looks and shooting.  That stuff is all most all subjective.

I wouldn't have a bow bolt without a fair amount of phenolic.  That and the bolt will add some weight so being too light or mass weight in general should not be a big deal.

I had a Centaur for a while.  Not crazy about the carbon look, but it is okay.  I like nice veneers a lot better.  I know you can get a Centaur with wood veneers, but that is not the hot Centaur most people want.  Also the Centaur bows I have seen had a more textured finish.  Looks like maybe it would be better for durability, but I like the finish on a whip better.

I have only shot a few whips, but liked the grip better no question about it.

Without shooting them side by side at same weight and arrow it is hard to compare speed and sound, but my best guess is the Centaur is faster and the whip is quieter.

I  guess if you want me to pick one for you, it will be a whip for quiet, looks, and grip. Do you want weigth, length and wood combo also?  :biglaugh:

I would consider that but the 2 pc do not show up very often in the classifieds. i am going to watch for a Whip for a little while longer. I have already shot the Centaur one piece and like the way they shot.

Thanks, Randy

I don't think you will be disappointed which ever one you decide on.
I have owned a Toelke Whip 2pc, and one piece Centaurs, I prefer the grip on the Toelke, but that is me it's YOU that counts.

I am currently shooting a one piece toelke Whip, Micarta laminate riser I like the masss weight and I see another T/D in my future I like 2 pieces for backpacking.

Only reason I let my other 2 piece Toelke go is the poundage was a little heavy for me.

I have quite a few Centaurs and shot a few Whips.
My last centaur was tripple carbon and dark Matter riser. My brother has the 2 piece dark matter.I think the DM T.D is very well made and durable.I had a Thunderhorn that uses a similar system.

Centuar will do any grip you like. From high to low and any size.He even does a thumbrest like you see on the whip if you want that feasture. So  I dont thik the grip is something to worry about since you may have that customized to your prefferance.

I think the Centaur is gonna have higher performance as far as cast.

I found the tripple carbon to pull very smooth for a tripple carbon limbed bow. Some others makes that I have tried seemed less smooth.Mine was 62".

The Whip is a gorgous bow, shoots sweetly, pleasantly and is extemely quiet.

I think the T.D syatem of the Centaur may be more bomproof in the long run since the bows riser is not hollowed out for hardware. The phenolic riser should be pretty strong though with the bowbolt.

One other thing about the two T/D systems to consider is, do you want the 2 piece for travel or as in my case backpack hunting.

I prefer not to have to carry an allen wrench or bolts, I know that doesn't seem like a big deal,.. until your four miles from your truck and drop a screw or allen wrench.  Trust me I know..!

I agree on the tool deal. i liked the sleeve system on my 2pc ACS but it creates to big of a grip. I want a 2pc for Airline Travel and wilderness hunting. I liked the Centaur that I had, Never tried a Whip yet.

Thanks Guys, Randy

I am a loyal Toelke fan and I've owned quite a few whips 66", 64", and 62".  The 66" was a takedown. Also, owned a 62" triple carbon elite centaur.  Out of the two I personally like the whip.  For me anyway, the whip is easier to tune (is more forgiving of brace height), is more quiet, and the grip fits me better.  The centaur that I owned was only 2 fps faster than my whip and was 3 lbs. heavier in draw weight.  I prefer the whip in a one piece, and prefer Lynx in a takedown.  It's not that I don't like the bow bolt, I just prefer a one piece whip.  Plus, Dan will build you a bow just to try out if he doesn't have one in stock.  The first bow I got from Dan was sent without me knowing it.  I talked to Dan on the phone,  three days later the bow I was asking about was at my front door.  Dan is just that type of person.  I currently own two Lynx's and two whips, love them both.

The bottom line is that they really are two outstanding bows.

I was thinking which one too but Just went out and shot the whip I'm sticking with my first date, a 58" tolke HS whip I don't think there is a better one out there. It does everything I ask it too.

From what I hear there is a major build time difference.  Never shot a centaur but every toelke i have shot was fantastic.

Thanks Guys. I missed a call yesterday from Dan Tolke. I will be talking to him and most likely ordering a 2pc Whip. I am sure if it does not work out for me someone would gladly give it a home.

Take care , Randy

I have never owned or shoot a Centaur, but have heard good things about them.

I have owned a Whip, but recently sold it since it was about 8 lbs lighter than what I really thought I wanted.

Since then, I have also contacted Dan and I am in the process of designing a new Whip with a few tweaks to my ideas.

These bows are so quiet, well made and perform as well as any other bows out there in my opinion. And, the big kicker is that Dan can have it in your hands in about a month in most cases.

So, if I can have a bow that meets all my requirements and I can have it within a month; then it will be a Toelke.

Randy ,

I would suggest that your new Whip should be at least 62 in. and around 47#.   :archer:

After many years of shooting recurves I ordered a Toelke Whip HS last sping.  I was hesitant about a longbow but figured I needed to hunt with one before it was  too late. I have never shot better and killed the first deer I shot at this fall with it. I simply love every thing about my 60' Whip.
