Schafer Recurve Length?

Ok Beth said that Dave says a 60 inch bow for a 28 inch draw. My question is who owns or has shot both a 60 and 62 inch takedown and has a 28 inch draw length? Thoughts on differences in the two? I have not shot a Schafer(I want to badly)  and asked if they had any to tryout and they do not at this time. I have always been a longbow guy so I have no clue as to whether or not a 60 or 62 inch is a better fit on a Schafer. Thanks for replies.

Beth/Dave will not lead you wrong - great people!  I needed 64" to feel comfortable at my 30". 60" should be good at 28". Others will chime in to help.

Both bows, the 60 and 62 inch will feel great when shooting..the longer bow will draw a little bit smoother..I have both and draw between 28-29 inches. When I'm shooting correctly I hit 29 and have no trouble with the 60 inch bow. If you want it to draw with a more smooth draw then go with the 62 but for hunting it won't make that much difference. For extended periods of shooting you will tell the difference.

60" would be my pick.  I draw 27" and shoot a 60"er.  It's the smoothest bow I've shot so far in my life.

When you get into the longer limbs, you notice less finger pinch, but you're not "unfolding" the limbs enough to get the best speeds.

I probably get 5-7FPS more on the 58" 'Tip I shot for a while, but it was noticebly harder on my ring finger

I also have a 27" draw and have the 60" bow and it it is the smoothest bow I have ever shot and I have shot a LOT. It is 51@28 and I have another set of limbs 48@28 on order, and don't let the non FF fool you they are fast.

I shoot 60 inchers and I draw just under 30.  I don't think you will have any issues with 60.  Great bows and great people to work with.

I draw 29" and have a 62"TD and a 60"1pc that Dave made for my 29' draw. Probably prefer the 62", because of the heavier and longer riser (19"). Both are keepers. You will not go wrong with either.

I have 5, 3 are short riser and 58",1 is a short riser and 60" limbs and the last is the medium riser and short limbs that make it 60" I really prefere the shorter 58"s at my 29" dl.

I'll have to go against the grain.  I've had several 60" bows over the past 20 years, all with medium risers.  They're the perfect length hunting bow, especially for tree stands.

A couple years ago I picked up a 62" bow with a long riser.  Most often a longer bow will draw a bit smoother and this was no exception, extremely smooth.  What really surprised me was how stable and forgiving the bow was to shoot.   The added mass weight and design of the bow made it incredibly accepting of release flaws or bow arm movement.  

With that said, if your looking for a great all around hunting bow I'd agree, a 60" would be a fantastic choice.  If your primarily a 3d shooter, who also hunts I'd give the 62" bow a look.  I think you'd be pleasantly surprised.

The 60" will suit you just fine.  I have two 60" and have shot the 62's.  For an all around hunting bow I find the 60" Tip perfect.

So does having Dave make you a set of bronze antler knobs      I use those all the rest of the year when I'm not hunting with my 60#ers.

Love the brass antler knobs Dan!  Use them on my 3 piece longbows.
