Splicing question??
« on: February 11, 2013, 01:50:00 AM »
Hi all

I want to try some splicing and I have a question?

Do I need to strip the same part of the feather that I wish to replace with the different colour, or is roughly around the area okay.

Am using full length feathers

Cheers

Jase

I've found that splicing from the same area will work just fine, you just have to test fit your splices before gluing to make sure everything lines up.  It's a great way to make the most out of your feathers and I've never had any problems using this method.

Tommy at Rocky Mountain Specialty Gear is the man when it comes to splicing.  He put together a pretty good how to tutorial.

Great info and just in time for my planning. I have a bunch of goose feathers just shipped to Magnus for processing. I like bright feathers so thinking about splicing something on back of goose feathers and adding some onestringer wraps to brighten them up to make them easier to  see.

Any fine points to add about splicing into goose feathers and what to use for factory feathers?  I usually use AMG fluorescents.  If you strip most of the base off the accent feather does it make much difference between Trueflight, AMG and Gateway for the quill quality?
