River Cane Quiver
« on: February 12, 2013, 01:20:00 PM »
I had a rainy Sunday and decided I'd make an attempt at a river cane quiver. I figured I'd need a trad quiver once I've put together some trad arrows.  Thought I'd share the results...

It will get much lighter as it dries out.  I thought I'd kinda add stuff from different hunts as I go along.  Turkey beards, antler buttons, and so on.  I bad need to arrow a fox or rabbit to make a fur collar for the top.  Hope you enjoy.

You did a nice job on your quiver. Did you split out the canesr use them whole?
You may have to add more weavers as the cane dries because it will shrink.

I appreciate the thanks!  Yes the ribs are halves and the weavers are quarters.  I have some extra drying in case the shrinkage is a problem.  I enjoyed it... Sure I'll do some more.

What Pat B said. It will shrink as it dries. I made a couple about 10-12 years ago. They were woven tight but later on there was space between the wales (or weavers). I show them at youth programs and still get a lot of good comments. Looks like you made good use of a bad day Fat Clyde.   :clapper:

I'd say it turned out pretty awesome, liking the green.

Well I have gotten some shrinkage from the cane.  Its about an inch shorter but the wraps have stayed nice and tight.  I really like the green as well but its much lighter already. I'm very impressed at how sturdy it is.  Wasn't sure this was going to be function or decoration but I'm really thinking it going to function quite well.

Sorry bout the late reply.  I can no longer post from my Ipad with a data connection.

Look on Flea bay for a "Mink Stole" or Fox Stole.  Not as memorable but no telling how long I'd have to wait.

That is a real work of art.  Where did you get instructions or how did you learn to do that?

That looks great. I started on but didn't finish it. Did you use rawhide at the bottom of the cane?
