Need some Longbow Wisdom

I recently was able to shoot two MOAB's thanks to a fellow Trad Gang Member (BDann).  The MOAB's that he had were excellent shooters and I will certainly be considering them as my first longbow.  I have scoured the classifieds and as I expected, not many people put MOAB's up for sale!  I am not opposed to going straight to Jim for a bow, but I wanted to know who has shot the MOAB's and do they remind you of any other longbows that I should be considering?  Really liked that the MOAB was dead in the hand.  Let me have it!  Thanks to all that respond and special thanks to BDann for helping to fuel my addiction.

Ummm.....MOAB's are my absolute favorite....you are correct in that they rarely seem to come up for sale used.  I've been fortunate enough to come across 2 lefty's over the past year or so that were very close in specs (53# and 54# @ 28").  I have a lead on another, but am unsure if it will pan out.
A bow that is a similar shooting experience is the Toelke Whip.  Not hardly as much speed, but just as quiet and dead in the hand.
My recommedation though, go with a MOAB.  The 60" MOAB has it all (62" doesn't get as good reviews, but I've never seen a lefty 62").

Thanks Ken, I am having a hard believing other bows are going to measure up to the MOAB.  Do you shoot 60 inch MOABS? If you do, what is your draw length?  I am about 29.5 and wondering if a 60 inch would give me any pinch issues?  Would love to hear what everyone thinks on this. Thanks

60" bow 29" draw and no issues. The only 1 pc 60" bow I have shot I like as much for shooting quality and speed is probably a Kanati. The super shrew is real nice also, but I don't think it is quite as fast. I suspect that the Hoots LB is also a nice 60" bow for a longer draw.

The whips and Big Jim buffalo are nice, but I find them to have more thump in the hand than a MOAB, and I am not sure how the 60" works for longer draw.  I do like the 62" bows I have shot in both and find them very quiet and to have good performance.

Tom deputy longbows out of abilene texas has a web site relatively unknown .there was a test on it on the trad archergazette web site.8.5 grains perlb in the 190s .of course its ahybrid like the moab. The limbs are of a different design.there is no preload feel to it .easily feels 5 lbs lighter than. It actually is.tester stated filet mignon performance. Tom is easy to work with. Iv seen the test onthe moab and the "wolverine" is in the same class.

Too many great longbows to count.  I have a Leon Stewart slammer, Mohawk Sparrowhawk, a Cari-bow Peregrine, and Wild Horse Creek Vision.  And right now, I couldn't even tell you which is the best longbow on my bow rack.  They are all great shooters.

Might take a look at a Sarrels too. He is a central Texas bowyer and makes some fine longbows.
