New Bow woods...Osage and ??
« on: February 18, 2013, 12:09:00 PM »
Well I'm gonna get a new bow made by John McDonald and I know I want Osage limbs but looking for other options for handle material. I'm thinking Osage and Wenge...I like the contrast this might have between the two. I sure would like to see some pics of your Osage bows or suggestions, what ya got!

Dark stained curly maple looks cool.  Gabon Ebony ( most guys I know hate to work with it ) is real dark and would contrast nicely.

I think Good dark cocobolo with osage is jsut plain sexy - especially if one uses accents of each in the bow.

Good luck Joe.

Congrats on the new bow.  The last one I had John make had a zircote riser but an osage I-beam in the middle.  The zircote is dark but still has some lighter figure in the wood.  The limbs are black glass and the whole thing works well.  Not alot of osage but maybe enough to give you an idea.

Where's the picture?  I love my River Runner and have been thinking of another.  I'd love to see a picture.

Joe,

Any bow made by John is a fine piece of work.  Make sure you share some pictures.

Osage and Bacote.... it's aged now and the osage matches the Bacote much better.

Charlie, That is the best looking handle that I have ever seen!

Do you have a picture of the complete handle and bow?

Here are a couple shots of a Bama Bow I had Nate make for me at the end of last year.  Told him I wanted something clean and basic...that I could take to the woods.  Wanted to go with a light colored wood to contrast with the black.  He recommended some native Oklahoma Osage he had.  This one is new and doesn't have that nice Osage age on it yet.
