William Shatner on American Sportsman?
« on: February 24, 2013, 08:47:00 PM »
When I was a kid I loved watching the American Sportsman on Sunday afternoons.  One of thr episodes I remember was William Shatner hunting bears with a recurve. Anyone remember the episode?  I always wondered what bow he was hunting with.

That was before he became anti hunting.
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

One in the same. He was once an avid hunter and sportsman. I believe that episode aired in 1968. BIG Alaskan brown shot with a recurve, which I believe was a Bear, up close and personal. No bait, tree stand, designer camo, scent lock, trail cam, bs. As Regardless of his stand on hunting today he was the real deal back in the day. Not like the hook and bullet posers on TV today.

He was a voyager, of the starship enterprise...and a hunter. Might be a new role model.   :biglaugh:

not sure that what you heard is what I actually meant!

Right after they saved that pair of whales and took them to the future to re-populate the oceans and save the earth from the giant whale alien creatures.  Don't you remember.

I don't mind if someone becomes an anti hunter, I do mind if they become anti hunting !, I don't tell him how to act, and I expect the same respect.

Since you went there with the old guys, time for you to pick one, Burt Reynolds from the Deliverance era, or Shatner with his bear hunting.  Who would win a fight?  And you don't get to add Chuck Norris into it.

The question is, did Burt really shoot the bow in Deliverance ?

Does anyone know what model Bear Shatner used when they filmed that hunt?

Did a search and 3 different places said it was a 55 # Shakespeare, not a Bear. But I really don't know for sure.

Chuck Norris would win....

There is no theory of Evolution.

Just a list of animals Chuck Norris allowed to live.

Chuck Norris doesn't need a recurve to shoot arrows.
He just flicks them with his middle finger and they leave his fist at 267 FPS.

He used a Shakespeare Necedah on that hunt. 55#, aluminum arrow and Bear Razorhead. He hit the bear running and hit it in the hip severing the femoral artery.

Thanks, Bill.  Is it just my relative inexperience but isn't 55-lbs a little light for hunting AK brownies?

Lucky he hit the femoral artery or he might have " gone where no man had gone before". Well maybe a few. Shooting at a running brown bear , he must of had a back up gunner for sure to be that confident to take a low percentage shot.

I remember that scene as if I saw it yesterday. The bear ran by at around 10 yards and he misjudged the speed of the bear. He was really lucky...the bear did not go far at all.
