Trouble sleeping the night before a hunt???
«
on:
August 24, 2007, 02:04:00 AM »
I have always had trouble falling a sleep the night before opening day or before leaving and going out of town on a big hunt.
I pick Chris Parker (Minuteman)up in six hours at the airport and then we are heading to Montana to hunt antelope and I know I should be sleeping but here I sit typing away.
Anybody else have this problem???

Brother, the night before opening day is like the last night of summer and the first day of school or christmas eve as a kid for me. I lay there in bed envisioning everything that might happen in the upcoming season....might get lucky and get a couple hours sleep. Hunting to me is MY sport. Too old to play football. I train physically year round with one thing in mind...hunting. I consider myself an athlete in this sport. When hunting season is over I feel a deadened sadness...almost depressed. I immediately go to work preparing for the next season.
Hope your sleeping now although it wont matter in a short while as your chasing lopes. I hope you score big on your trip.

Hey, Me too! I got in the rack about 11 and woke up at 3 ready to go. I may need a little caffiene boost about midday to make it through, Tracy.

The night before a hunt??? Heck I don't leave for almost three weeks yet and I'm already having trouble. I know from many years of trying that the only way to get any sleep the last couple of nights before leaving is by using sleeping pills. Normally don't like drugs, but I'd be a complete wreak without them before a trip.
Have a great trip guys, and bring back plenty of stories and pictures for the rest of us!

Elk opens in the morning. I ain't slept in 3 days.
I hope the mountain air oh, and the 3 hr. hike to get in will help that. For some reason i just don't think it will.

I used to sleep terribly, and would have nightmares about trying to pull my bow back but there was no tension and animals would just walk away as the arrow fell to my feet. . . then I discovered drugs. . .lol

Yeah, me too! Even when I knew I was to be driving all night to Quebec for a bear hunt recently I couldn't even grab a nap. Of course back at work now I can nap without a problem!

Just like when I was a kid and it was Christmas. If you dont get fired up over the opening day thin you should quit. I love the middle of Nov. but something about the opening day. Good luck to all this year and be safe.

I do to, and always have some weird dreams. Last night I saved my dad from a bear attack with an ax!!!
Woke up sweating, and could not go back to sleep. Hunt starts on Saturday, so not sure what will happen tonight.....

I have trouble falling to sleep the night before leaving for Cloverdale, or Compton's or ATAR....I'm an even bigger ball of nerves the night before opening day.
