Barge Cement To Attach Elevated Rest?
« on: August 24, 2007, 11:03:00 AM »
Thought I would ask if anyone has tried this, and lacking that, opinions before I tried it.

Have a couple T-300 rests with no adhesive back, and it hardly seems worth the effort to order a couple.  So being, I'm wondering if Barge Cement would be sufficiently strong to attach one to the sight window?

Shoe Goo or Shoe Patch works like a champ.  You can get it at a cobbler's shop.

Double sided tape would work and be easy enough to remove.

I've had mixed results with Barge Cement.  I use the same procedure for cleaning with Barge Cement and with Shoe Goo/Paste and I've had rests bonded with Barge Cement come loose.  I've never had one come loose with Shoe Goo/Paste.

Thanks for the responses.  Wished I could find some industrial strength double sided tape here in town,as the stuff available is pretty lame. Might be able to find Shoe Goo in town, if not Should be able to next time I get to Grand Forks....

If you can get your hands on some DAP/Weldwood cobtact cement, you have no problems attaching your rests.
The stuff holds tight and will come off with just a little work... You can glue the rest to duct tape and then just "tape" it on.

I got some heavy duty double sided "foam tape" that has been working real well on my Weatherrest.  It is kind of like the sticky-backed foam that comes on a Weatherrest, but the adhesive is super sticky and it is thinner.  It is made for use outdoors and is gray in color.  For the life of me I can't remember exactly what it is called.

Seems to be really good stuff.

Brian, if you could send me a link or point me in the right direction to get some of that stuff, I sure would appreciate it...

ND,

I cannot find a description of this product online.  It would be easier if I would have kept the packaging, but I didn't.

I bought this stuff at my local Ace Hardware.  It is a double-sided foam tape.  The color is gray and it is made for outdoor use or industrial use or something like that.

I found out about it from my dad.  He had a roll from work.  I didn't think I could get it retail, but I checked Ace and they had it.

I hope this helps.  If I'm in the hardware store I 'll find it and get the name of it for you.

barge will work just fine. just make sure you clean all with acetone before gluing.
i was told by a sales person, when purchasing an out-of-date newpaper that it was out-of-date...

i told her "i've been told i'm out-of-date, too"...

does that mean i'm up-to-date?

Brian,
I think I found the tape you described.  It's Scotch Exterior Mounting Tape.  Thin grey tape with red backing.  5lbs holding strength versus 2lbs for "Heavy Duty" double sided (the thicker foam type stuff)...

I have used paper thin industrial double sided tape from mcmaster carr.  Probably available at any good hardware store.  Super strong but can easily and cleanly be removed when you want to.

The stuff I used is black.
