3D comb0 ....3550's?
« on: March 09, 2013, 04:36:00 PM »
--40#@28"(35#@26")   shooting   GT Traditionals 3550's cut to 29", 4" shields, alum. insert and 125gr points off shelf...
--Are these the proper arrows for this set up or are they over spined?
---What would be the best string for this combo in 3D?

Sounds like they may be too stiff. Need more info. Is your shelf cut to center? What's your Draw length?

I think they would be too stiff. I shoot 35/55 @ 27" w/ 235grs up front. That is off of  51@26" w/ a skinny string. This combo is borderline stiff.

Add tip weight....  I would recommend starting around 225 gr.  be prepared to go down to 175 and up to 300 gr.....should be able to find out.

Another option would be adding 100 gr. inserts.   Possibility you might be able to use your 125 gr. points with that setup.

Bareshaft tune. Your form can have a huge impact on teh proper spine. So does the centershot etc. If they bareshaft well and shoot well, they're spined correctly.

It's not that input from other people isn't useful for determining spine, but it's just a broad starting point.

I do admit though, that sounds like a stiff arrow for 35#.

I shoot 3555 with 225 up front at 28" through bows up to maybe 55lbs

Over spined, I shoot 1535 GT's out of all my bows, 38# to 54# @ my 26.5" draw, cut to 28", 3 feathers either 5" or 4" feathers, 50gr. brass insert and 125 to 175 gr tip.

I would go 1535 for sure. I shoot those out of my 45@28" bows very well and that with 175 up front

I have a #45 trad tech and #48 Centaur drawing 27 1/2" using 15/35 GoldTips, 145 grain heads.  Works great and bare shafts the same.  You can make the 35/50's work, but you'll have to load up the front end to do it.
