How to chrono an arrow?
«

Hey all,
The mad scientist in me needs a little help.
I want to chrono my bows, but I am having trouble doing it.
I have a chronograph I use for testing my reloaded cartridges for firearms. What is the best way to get it to see an arrow? I have had trouble getting a reading--it seems that it reads with one or ther other sensor and never both at the same time.
Thanks!
Matt

Just like with firearms it is important to shoot straight across both sensors and on as level a plane as possible.
If you are trying to do this inside, you will likely need a lighting kit in order to have the unit correctly detect the arrow.
What make/model of chronograph are you using?

Some days my Chrony works great with arrows and some days they seem to be invisible...sometimes swearing at it and threatening to smash it to pieces seems to help me feel a bit better...in reality putting it away and trying again another day is the best as I think it is all about the light conditions at the time...around here every archery shop has a chronograph setup and if that is the same in your area just ask them what works for them...just had a thought...what a about using a black marker on the point or even using brand new points to help the chronograph see them

Thanks for the information!
I did shoot inside, though with incandescent lights and not fluorescent. Perhaps I should try it again outside.
My chronograph is a Chrony Beta model.

I have a Chrony model that I shoot indoors. I first tried it under fluorescent lighting and it wouldn't read consistently. I had some bright painters/shop lights that I rigged to hand from the basement ceiling directly above the Chrony. Now it reads every time as long as I get the arrow over both sensors.
Incidentally, the male dog "marked" that light without me knowing it. Now, every time I use the Chrony it's not only hot under the light it has a nice smell once it heats up. That's the only thing that dog has ever marked in the house.

Sounds like I need more light. I am not surprised to discover this, and it should be easy to remedy.
I will be sure to get a urine free bulb.
Thanks everyone for the inputs!

I wish my dog would have marked mine, it would have made a good excuse for all of the varied readings.

I shoot at a target and say thats good for me. I don't want to know. Did it to a few bows and got thinking too much in getting them faster.
