Have a set, but never used them.  It never rains when I have raingear in my pack, and usually does if I don't   :banghead:

Loud, very loud     :scared:            Some of my freinds use them for fishing. My .02 is find something quite.Kip

what Kip said..I had some and its good stuff, just noisy imo.

Jon Stewart

They were all the talk when they first came out and pricey but they have come down in price. Friends backpacked the Appalacian Trail and used them and swore by them.  Noise wasn't a concern for them though.

Noisy and not durable at all. If you are just gonna take a walk in them they are fine. If you are gonna get off the trail or hunt forget them. Sorry but I think they are garbage, they have good customer service and replaced my first pair but when the second pair went bad quick, I never bothered again. Shawn

I'm with Shawn, do not even consider for hunting or hiking, ok for sittin in a john boat in a drizzle and fishing, other than that, dont bother

Got my son  a pair for the Boundary Waters we went on and well they worked for that they only made it the one trip. Somewhow he tore  a hole in the pants.

So to sum it up,  cheap, noisy, and not durable.

I've not found something I really like either. I got the Cabelas MTO 50 or what ever it's called and it gets heavy when it gets wet and not the most quiet when it's dry. Also tried cabelas dry-plus stuff and thaought it was heavy and hot.  I considered getting Helley Hanson Impertech stuff but was concerned that it would be really hot since it didn't breath. But as usaully any rain gear gets warm if your really active.  I wear non breathable stuff as a powerlineman and it works fine so my next set I think will be the Helley Hansen stuff and just not try to over heat.

Ken,  I bought some for Colorado.  I ended up carrying the coat and not the pants.  Personally I think You are better off looking elsewhere.

I think you should get a good poncho or lightweight tarp.  The afternoon thunderstorms pop up fast and are severe.   You need something to try and ride them out in.

At the same time you need to look at space and weight.  Your rain coat could be the same coat you used if the weather gets cold fast.  You want something breathable as well.
Relax,

You'll live longer!

yeah Charlie John told me the same, a poncho is a better idea, thats what i think i will go with.

As several have said, they're fine for fishing, but much too loud for hunting. Not breatheable either.

Ken, I don't know what else is available these days, but my Cabela's Dry Plus jacket and pants in seclusion 3d has served me well. I bought it for hunting and fishing about 5 yrs. ago. It's rubberized inside a polyester shell. plenty tough if you don't get in the briers.Somewhat breathable as well. A little pricey but well made.Packs well also.

I wore em once when I fished bass tournaments. Once. Felt like i was wearing a potato sack.  They kept me dry from the rain but I sweated like hell in them.

Army surplus poncho is what I have used for many years. I don't hunt in the rain but in the mountains a shower can come anytime. The poncho is easy and quick to put on and comes off after the shower is over. You can also put your bow under it to keep it dry.

I like the poncho idea. I would think you can tuck your arrows under it and keep fletching dry.  I think I'll get one for hunting in La.

I'll 2nd the Cabelas Dry Plus. I have the packable set and they work really well for hunting and they fit well in a pack.
Where I live and hunt we average about 120" of rain a year so I do have some experience with different rain gear.

Beanbag

I use Cabelas Space rain gear. Packs down really small and is lite. Not brush busting stuff though. I also use Go-lite"s poncho tarp. It also is very lite and quick to get on although a bit noisy, you can also bivy under it. Also works great for wrapping meat into your pack. I like to use items that can work double duty. Look for less is more.

You don't want something that you will sweat in.  You will be doing enough sweating just elk hunting.  You need to wear quick drying type clothes accordingly.  I have been real lucky so far in that we have never had a real all-day rain yet while elk hunting.  I sometimes carry a rain jacket and pants with me if it is expected, but I have yet to use them.  Most of the guys I hunt with don't even bother carrying any.
