found a keeper

A couple weeks ago i picked up a Habu Bushmaster off this site, wow what a bow. I have had maybe 30 bows over the years, this one is most definitly a keeper, and this happens to be my first recurve, shoot it better than any of my longbows. Only problem is out of all the arrows i have, the only ones that shoot well are some used carbons i picked up recently. All my woods are from 45# spine up to 70#, and all seem too weak, all my longbows are from 45-55#, and my Habu is 54#@28 i draw about 27.5 and my arrows are 28.5 BOP, and i should have a SBD string coming in a wk or so.I just got some doug fir 65-70 spine for my 53#DwyerDauntless, they shoot great, but not out of the Habu, show weak, i am thinking 75-80 spine, dont that seem like alot, 125-145 points.

I suspect your Habu is cut pretty deep so that it is centershot.  This ups a bow's spine need considerably, as there is nothing for the arrows to flex around.  I would have figured 70+, so 75-79 isn't that far off.  

Try temporarily building the side plate out 1/16-1/8" and shoot the 65-70's again.  Bet it makes quite a bit of difference.

The  few carbons i have are the ICS bowhunter 400, i was thinking maybe get some Goldtip blems in 55/75 from Big Jims, them should work, i think them are 400 also.

Go figure, I shoot 1535's around 29", 50 gr. brass insert, 100-175 gr. tip, out of all my bows, latest being a 54# recurve, no problems at all, field tip or broad head. All bows are cut to center.

I have a dozen 3555 i shoot out of all my bows also, but they seem weak in my Habu, i cant believe you can shoot 1535, that seems odd to me. I also have one wood arrow, i found at a shoot about 7 yrs ago and forgot to turn it in at the clubhouse, its 3/4" shorter than what i cut my arrows, on my homemade spinetester its 355 spine, which is 70# and it flys really well, now with a new skinny string coming i am thinking add 5 more pounds, which puts me at 75# spine, between all my wood, aluminum, and carbon this is what i have come down to.I probably have 100 arrows,i tried alot of different spines in this bow, from 45-70.

Love the older Habu's lots of mass!  

5575 gold tips worked for mine, axis 400's are good too.

Well, I don't have a Habu, but I can assure you that my arrows fly very well, and accurate. My next experiment will be to put a 160 gr. grizzly with the 100gr. screw on adaptors, that will be 260gr. plus the 50 gr. brass insert on a 1535 and see how it shoots, I still have room to cut the arrow down more, would love to use them for hunting if I can get the weight way up and still have good arrow flight.

My 1535 arrows at the present time weigh between 400gr. and 472gr, they all fly perfect, with the grizzly BH, and the 100gr screw on  adaptors, the arrows would weigh 560gr. ( I know this because I just weighed them ), and if I get good arrow flight, that will be my elk arrow for this coming season.

I should also add, that I do not bare shaft, If I get good arrow flight with the arrow all made up, that's good enough for me. I have paper tuned and I got perfect bullets holes in the paper.

i dont bare shaft either i just shoot them at about 15yds, and watch the arrow. I guess i should set something up to shoot thru paper, maybe alot is just me and my release. But i sure can tell a difference in flight when i get above that 70# spine. As soon as it warms up a bit i will have to try them 3555 shafts again.njloco i hope i didnt come off sounding sarcastic, that was not my intention, if so i am sorry.

If it's nice out tomorrow, I'll try big Jim's hot melt on the screw in inserts for the grizzly's, and see how they fly.

Half the fun is playing around with the different stuff and seeing what happens.

I like center cut on a bow because with the higher spine comes weight on a carbon. Like on my #53 static I run a maxima 350, 50gr. Bushing, 150 gr. Point and get around 10ggp. @ 30.5" arrow.

JB, i really like this bow, been shooting it every nite in my basement, a few times outside weather permitting, spring just dosent seem to want to come to wisconsin this year. Just cant seem to decide which shafts i need for it. when i dedide on spine, then its a matter of wood or carbon.

Don't try Chris's longbow if you are in love w/ that recurve because there willbe a break-up.

Overbo, something tells me you are probably right. Years ago i had his Death-Adder and sold it for financial reasons, i would give my two best longbows to get that back. i have thought about selling what i have and buy one of his new bows, i believe a fella wouldnt want for any others.
