Turkey Scoutin' 2013
« on: March 30, 2013, 09:04:00 PM »
One of, if not my favorite time of the year...scouting for turkeys!!

This spring I have a whole new focus....Cade's 1st spring hunt during our youth season here in NY...he's determined to do it with his bow!

A couple pix from this morning...there are 7 "legal" birds in this flock....3 longbeards, a jake, and believe it or not 3 bearded hens!

•

Here comes the 3rd longbeard...
•

Another area I checked this morning...
•
•

As most of you know, I'm a turkey nut and look forward to spring as much as deer season.
But now with Cade being able to hunt with me...well...you know...

I'll try to add more pix as I go...

Good stuff Curt!  I am having a hard time locating the 3 flocks i had tabs on last year.  There are a few tracks in the snow so I hope they will be back soon.
Relax,

You'll live longer!

Deer, pig, and turkey in the same year?   This could be epic.

Either way, a ton of fun for sure.  For some reason, turkeys get my blood going too.  Get'em Cade!

I actually just found turkeys on State land here in The Flathead last weekend shed hunting with a buddy.  I'm heading back in there tomorrow afternoon to get together a couple ground blinds.  We've had turkeys for a long time, but they tend to stay on the valley bottom which is all private, and access is near impossible.

So, I'm taking on a completely NEW challenge with my Silvertip early this spring.

No longbeards, but the group I found was 26 birds, and it ran about 50/50 as far as sex.  I'm no expert on turkeys, but everything else that breeds, that tells me it should be pretty good odds calling and decoying

Lots of Fajita sized Jakes for sure.

I even been shooting some lately  :)

Good luck fellas! Took a kid for the IL youth season this morning and we did good with another weapon.

Good luck to Cade, Curt! I have to give it to the young man (and dad) for trying with his bow. It is a tough venture but somehow I think it will work out  :)
