Elk Hunters Post up!!!!
« on: August 26, 2007, 12:32:00 AM »
Okay, All of you that are going elk hunting this year lets here these details:
- What state you will be hunting in?
- When you will be going?
- Guided or non guided?
- What bow, include poundage?
- What arrows include broadheads?
Good Luck to all and be safe. A big part of Elk hunting is usually pushing yourself past your physical limits and alot of tiring days. But for the oppurtunity to be amongst elk and the country they live in, is truly worth it. Again good luck to all and hopefully your arrow reaches its spot.
Never let the truth get in the way of a good story....

TODAY was opening day ...
COLORADO, Public land
Yes I went, Only saw a few Mulie doe's
I usually , by the end of season have quite a few encounters, even with some well over 300"
I shoot a 59# pronghorn longbow, and a 55# Pronghorn ferrett (recurve) 125 gr G5-B52 boadheads
I lost 4 pounds this morning and usually 20 pounds by the end of the season.  You do literal HOURS of cardio workouts in a day so You need to eat and drink to keep the weight on and have the sustained energy for the haul..
good luck

Good to hear from you guys who are elk hunting this year. It is not the same as actually being there but it helps to get a little fix from you as you progress through the season. Make sure to take plenty of pictures and keep us up to date with posts whenever you get a chance.
To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

Idaho (but don't come here, there isn't any elk, we only have lizards....)
September 13th-27th.
Non guided, fully DIY front and backcountry
My own homemade bow, similar to a savannah, but 58" total length, 57# @ 25", Zebra riser, cocobolo limbs.
POC woodies, spined 60-65#, spray crested orange, 4 X 5" orange feathers, 145 grain snuffers.
Man, can I wait that long?  Opener is this week, it is still hot.  I have two other Trad Gangers coming up from California and Virginia, "PaleFace" and "Ausable"  We are going to have a blast I hope.
