Salmon,Idaho
Sept 15 through 30
Non-Guided, although Brian Krebs has offered to hold my hand and wipe the tears from my face on Sept 30
A & H Archery ACS-CX Long bow 66# @ 28
Easton Axis 340, 830 grains w/ Modified Grizzly Grande broadhead

The question should be:  What kind of physical conditioning are we old fat part-time bowhunters in?  The elk are full time elk accustomed to running uphill at 10,000+ feet.  I usually hack up a lung on the second or third day of the hunt.

Slow opening weekende in SW CO. No bugling except hunters who know not what they're doing (shutting up the real bulls). Got close to one small bull. Backpack hunt ruined by illegal ATV "hunters."

I went out this weekend here in SW Colorodo with my son.  He is 16 years old and it is his first archery season.  He has killed four elk with a rifle.  This past Christmas, I got him a new Bighorn Ramhunter Longbow and made hime a couple of dozen wood arrows.  He has been shooting all summer in preparation.  We went and camped the first two days of the season.  We saw one nice 6x6 which winded us and spooked and a second bull that must have seen us first and just barked at us for the evening.  We saw several nice rub trees and lots of cows, calves, and fresh sign.  We also took a few pictures I'll try to post them soon.  We saw two dandy muley bucks, but we didn't have a deer license.  Actually he is the only one with an elk license.  I want to make sure he gets all the oppotunities this fall.  If he happens to get his bull before the season ends, I'll buy an OTC license and try it myself.  It is really a blast hunting with him.  We have hunted during rifle season and also been hunting birds and turkeys since he was about 10.  It sure is fun to be out with him carrying his longbow and watching him shoot it.  Hopefully we will have some bull elk trophy photos to share before long.

Mike

Sept 15-23 in NE Oregon's Blue Mts.  My Brother is up there now for the whole season.  He just moved to Colorado, so next year we may be hitting both states.
Good Luck All!!

Dave: are ATV's just a fact of life even in Colorado wilderness areas during hunting season?

bowbender1 had any luck in the snowies? I lived in Laramie for a year and spent a bunch of time trying to find them but only found other hunters.
