Using Reflex to Increase Draw Weight
« on: August 26, 2007, 02:48:00 PM »
Hi Everybody,

I am currently making a form based on my girlfriends bow, which is a 1" reflexed 69" longbow. Her bow is 40 pounds at 28". To increase the draw-weight to 50 pounds I've calculated that I need a 2" pike and to increase the lam thickness at the butts by .05".

I want to increase the weight further by adding more reflex, 1.5 to 2 inches of total reflex is what I have been considering, and I don't want the final weight to be above 65 lbs, with 57-60 being ideal.

Does anybody have any formulas or practical experience of how adding reflex effects the final draw weight? If I go with 2" of total reflex am I likely to go over 65 lbs?

Thanks. Barry

When I start with a new form I usually just make an educated guess and see what how it turns out.  It's hard to say what outcome will be.

Ethan, I've never played with reflex as the sole parameter, so I have no idea whether my educated guess of 2" is close or not.  I'm going to go ahead with 2" and see where it gets me.
