JD Berry comes through!
« on: April 09, 2013, 09:48:00 PM »
When I read a post from Brian awhile back that Mr. Berry was offering a forward handle Hill style longbow I knew that it would be a special one. I have owned a Vixen for many years and have admired Mr. Berry's work for many more so, when I heard about his new offering I ordered one and left the core and veneer choices to him. The bow is a tribute to my baby brother who is dying from an inoperable brain tumor. I received the bow today and it is the most beautiful bow I could have imagined. It has bamboo limb cores with highly figured yew veneers and a Brazilian Rosewood handle. I couldn't be more pleased. I immediately took it over so that my brother could admire it and handle it as well. I named the bow "Brother David" in his honor. I can't thank Mr. Berry enough for this masterpiece. I can't do pics but it looks just like the one Mudd is testing right now and the one on the bear skin pictured in Mr. Mudd's post. It is gorgeous.

Okie,
First off, sorry to hear about your brother and we will keep you and your family in our prayers. I pray that you are giving the strength and guidance you need in these trying times.

Secondly, that is a great thing that James did, and I am happy to hear that your brother got to see the bow.  My Morningstar has fast made it to the top of the ranks and my favorite shooter.  I am sure once you get to focus on the bow and its shooting you will get to truly get the feel for the bow.  James is a very good man, even though that old man tries to act hard sometimes he would give you the shirt off his back in a blizzard.

It meant a lot that he got to see his name on it and  handle it. He is only 50yrs old and has been fighting cancer for the last few years. The cancer finally moved to his brain and his last scan showed it has invaded several organs too. He is a veteran and has been a good guy all of his life. We are all heartbroken. I will remember him every time I pick up this bow.

Okie Man
I am thinking good thoughts to you and your brother and family.  What a tough situation.

I would also like to say that I am sure the Morning Star will be a wonderful tribute to the relationship between you and your bro.  I hope it brings you many hours of happy shooting in the field.

Take Care.

Sorry to hear about your brother Randy. James is my brother and he told me the other day the story of your brother and you. He said that it wouldn't be right to put you on the bottom of the waiting list and that he hopes that the customers that are on the list would understand. I'm sure that we all understand and will keep you and your brother in are thoughts and prayers.-----Dan Berry

Thank you all so much for the thoughtful comments and prayers. James is a masterful bowyer and a very fine man and I appreciate all that he has done. My brother David was very impressed with his work.
David is on a pain patch and several oral pain meds to keep him comfortable but he handled the bow and commented on how pretty it is. I am grateful that he was able to hold it and see his name on it. When I handle the bow in the future, I will think of both him and James and the conversation we had when I ordered it. James truly is a fine man.

My baby brother passed away at 8:15 this morning from cancer. We are devastated and heartbroken over the loss. I will remember him each time I touch the bow James made in his honor.
