Turkey hunting is one of my favorite times of year and this year I was starting it off early by heading to South Dakota.  Season opened April 6th and that's when I arrived at the airport and then straight to the hills from there.  I always enjoy the beauty of new land and somewhere different to roam.  Country living at its best with plenty of wildlife to spare.  Bare with me for I forgot my point and shoot camera and only was left with my iPhone camera.

Wish I would have known, I could have given you a back up spot...

That was about the most fun I've had chasing turkeys.  BEAUTIFUL country and the birds didn't frustrate me near as much as the Rios in KS.

Good luck David!

The Black Hills have a ton of acreage to hunt.  While working birds in the hills I saw plenty of mule deer, elk, and whitetails.  On the way in I also saw some very nice pronghorn.  We worked some jakes while in the hills but decided to try somewhere else.

All in all considering I only had two days of hunting because of the blizzard that struck the upper midwest I had a ton of fun.  I got a nice tom the second evening.  Sorry for not being able to post pics fellas.

Dave it looks like you were not shooting through the netting of your blind? Tell us how you scouted for your birds?

The weather here has really mucked up the turkey hunting.  It is snowing and blowing again this morning.  Wind gusts up to 50mph.

I was fortunate that my son and I made it in on the last flight into Rapid City last Monday night.  The airport was then closed for two days.
Inquiring minds.......

Congrats on putting it together on a travel hunt.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.
