New Koa Wood Recurve
«

I have been wanting to have a bow made from Koa the first time I saw the wood on my first trip to Hawaii. And when my wife and I went on our annual vacation to the Big Island this year I decided this was the year. Here is the piece I bought when I was there in February. More pics to follow....

I did plan on using some Makore in the riser but after seeing this pic I decided to go with all Koa.

Here she is with her first coat of finish. Ed Kincade has made my last 3 bows and will be making my next several I'm sure. He did say that the curl of the wood looks much better in person. The limbs are Makore and like I said I decided to go with an all Koa riser with black phenolic.

Thank you for the kind words. Though I have seen some beautiful Koa I have also seen some that would make a fence post pretty and that's the reason I wanted to see the wood in person. The limbs did turn out nice though I was a little concerened since I never saw Makore before. Ed Kincade makes it so easy that I get a little carried away and find myself wanting another. As a mater of fact I had enough Koa for two bows and may be posting pics of another new bow real soon.

Beautiful bow and it's cool that you picked out your own wood.

I had Ed build one last year out of Bolivian Rosewood and he went to his lumber supplier and took pictures of different pieces of wood so that I could pick out the one I wanted. He is very accommodating and understands how important the right wood is when you’re having one built.
