feathers not working in the fog
« on: April 20, 2013, 02:55:00 PM »
Hi, I'm a bow hunter in coastal ca. Deer seasons early here but often times I'm running into heavy fog. My feathers are getting soaked and heavy. Anyone know the best way the waterproof them?

By "natural", do you mean no dye?

Yes straight from the turkey or goose.
The powders work some what.
The guy that originally designed the whisker biscuit arrow rest for compounds. Had a spray for them to,keep them from freezing up.
Might have been called stay dry. Worked good on feathers.
The 3m water proof spray for fabrics works pretty, well also.

Yes straight from a WILD bird. Dyed from a WILD bird is great too. Commercial feathers are from domestic birds. Not the same thing.

x2 what Magnus said.Real wild turk or goose. They have natural oil in the feather.Way better for wet conditions.I have sprayed my fletching with Scotch gaurd before, but it initially stiffens them a bit and smells.

If your using a bow quiver you can devise a water proof covering that still allows the arrow to be removed, easily.

Get a spray can of No Snow. Spray it on and don't worry about the weather. A bit pricey, but works great on feathers and everything else.
