Call savers for mouth calls

Does anybody use them? I put a thin piece of plastic between the reeds, but am wondering if I'm actually helping anything. It seems almost like, when removing the call saver, I'm stretching the latex and don't get the tone I want over time.
Thinking about going without them, but was curious what y'all do?

I've never used one and have been Turkey hunting with mouth calls since 1994. Since I've started I have only lost one or two calls to the latex drying together or deteriorating. All I ever do is swish them in some mouthwash before I use them again in the spring. If I have one that looks like it has stuck together after I swish in the mouthwash I use a toothpick and separate the reeds.
