It was kind of different hunt this AM. I set up my blind on Sat. afternoon and was back in this AM well before light. In the dark I put my jake decoy to far to the right so I could only see it if I leaned forward to look out the blind. No birds gobbeling in the timber I was in so I was watching some turkeys about 400 yards away on the next farm.
About 7:00 AM I lean forward and their's a tom in full strut right beside my decoy 5 yards away but the decoy is between me and him. He finally comes around to my side and gave me a quarting away shot when he was in full strut.
This is the first tom I've ever shot that never made calls, not even form his roost as he had to be in the 20 acre timber he was in. I guess it pay to set up where you can be seen.
It was a 5 yard shot and he never made it 20 yards.
What a turkey season it's been for me. Between work and family and being under the weather I finally got out for the second time this year.
At about 7:15 this AM my jake decoy was stormed by 6 jakes, and I shot this one standing on top of my decoy at 5 yards away. I hit him in the middle of the back and he died right beside my decoy.
I used my 40# 1964 Kodiak and the same arrow I got my first turkey with.
It's the first year I've ever gotten 2 birds in the same season.
