Turkeys and a bobcat
« on: May 04, 2013, 12:53:00 PM »
Went out turkey hunting this morning. Had a nice tom that just wouldn't come in the decoys.I drew on him twice, but he was just a hair to far out.Didn't hear a gobble until almost 11,then 3 birds starting blowing up,gobbling all around me.I had one bird on his way in,but was still about 60-75 yards away in the next lot at 5 of 12.We can only hunt until noon,so I crawled out grabbed the dekes and slipped on out of there. When I got back to my truck I drove up to where I could see the lot my blind is in.Big gobbler about 30 yards from my blind!      :D
Best part of the day was just after first light,I had done a few soft yelps and purrs.I was looking down adjusting the strap on my glove and wham,I heard something hit my decoy.I leaned back so the bird wouldn't see me,started a quarter draw and leaned forward.I saw the hen decoy off it's stake and 3 feet away from it.Leaned out a little more expecting to see a gobbler but saw a bobcat walking away about 20 yards out.The decoy has puncture marks on it.I wish I had a video camera going. I had a coyote do the same thing last year.Maybe a bear will be next!

Last year while hunting with my (then) 11 year old granddaughter, a fox attacked our decoy. We seen it coming from a distance and when it jumped on the old feather flex it knew something was wrong. It went straight back up in the air and was gone in a flash.

We got a good laugh out of it.

Good luck with the rest of the season!

Yep,it was one of the coolest things I've seen in the woods. I wish my daughter was with me,but my wife had taken her with friends to a water park and they didn't get home to after 11.No chance of her waking up at 4am!  :D

When my son was about 13 he killed his first turkey, all of sudden a bobcat rushed in and stolen the turkey, we were in a ground blind and I had to chase after the Bobcat to get the turkey back, I won.   :bigsmyl:
