If the old Doe only knew
« on: May 09, 2013, 11:51:00 AM »
Went out again this morning in search of Mr. Tom turkey and didnt see or hear so much as one bird, but the morning wasnt a total bust.
While backed into some heavy back cover on my stool, I had 2 Does walk in on me at approx. 10 yrds, so for fun I went thru the motions of raising my bow, picking a spot on the lead Doe and doing a false draw, not actually drawing but just going thru the motion of bringing my hand back to anchor, it was not until I lowered my bow arm after my simulated shot that Doe number 2 busted me and off they went.
Simulated or not, It might have been the BOOM, BOOOM ,BOOM in my chest that got me busted.   :campfire:

Its experiences like that that keep me on the ground these days.....well that and getting to lazy for all that tree climbing anymore.   :biglaugh:
For me hunting from the ground is more of a rush than hunting from a tree ever was.

And when you want that to happen, it will be turkeys that you see. Always fun for sure. I went up to my ground blind this morning and had a Doe come in as well. She was headed right for me, and at 20 yds. she saw my Jake decoy turn in the breeze. She half snorted and jogged back to my logging road, only to return to check out what that thing was that moved. Wind was in my favor and she never smelled me, but she didn't like that turkey being in her line of travel. She finally trotted off a little ticked off.The sit first day, I saw two coyotes, a squirrel, and a grouse feed with my decoys.Oh, and I missed the biggest Gobbler of my life at 8 yrds.

Sometimes success is based on an experience that you encounter and not what you might have harvested, so for me, this morning was a success, for had it been fall and legal deer season..........

Mother Nature is full of many wonderful blessings! This is certainly a successful hunt in my book.
Plant a fruit or nut tree today, and have good hunting tomorrow.
